The inevitable eventually happens, where a child begins questioning whether or not Santa actually exists and is real, so absolutely, when a child reaches the stage of recognizing the fact that Santa isn't real and raises solid questions and doubts as to his existence, I believe there is nothing wrong with setting the record straight at that time.
