Abear - I didn't realize that's what caused a goiter! I'll have to be sure I always take mine. I use to forget to take it for days at a time. Why don't they remove the goiter?

My neck has a little pocket of extra fat on it that the dr always feels. He said it looks like I have a goiter, but they've done tests, and it's not.

Not being a big fan of surgery, I have never asked about the possibility of removing it at this point. I know if it starts growing again, they will remove it...or so the doctor said.

Now that you've asked that, I am going to try to remember to ask that next time I go to the doctor for my thyroid. ;-)

Abear - I don't blame you, I would have a real hard time with surgery on my neck. I've heard it can mess up your vocal chords, and if you are a singer, you might not be after surgery. I sing in a 100 member choir, so I would just bawl if I lost my singing voice. Good luck with it, let's hope it never grows!

I have had two beautiful children. With my first one, I had no problem getting pregnant but with my daughter, it took me 4 years of trying different things--but I also discovered along the way that I have PCOS.

I would strongly recommend seeing an endocrinologist who specializes in thryroid disorders. One of my biggest problems was weight gain. He put me on a medication to help me lose weight (I cant think of it for the life of me right now). I worked with him for about 2 yrs and finally became pregnant.

I was lucky that during my pregnancies, I never had to have my dosage raised.

I did find out that I can only take Synthroid--the generics wont work for me.

How long have you been trying to conceive? Did you just find out that you have thyroid problems?

Good Luck with everything. Im here if you want to talk.

I also have hypothyroidism. Mine was diagnosed after my last child. However, I may have had it earlier as I had problems that could be related to it or my pitutuary. I had scans prior to both children as I was lactating without being on bc or having children. I had endometriosis and it took about 4 years to conceive both children with several miscarriages. Of course it may not have been related to the thyroid.

My doctor also said not to take any iron or calcium meds with or close to taking the thyroid meds. I also have to wait an hour to eat after I take my meds or wait 2 - 3 hours. I saw a nutritionist who recommended taking it at night. This was because she did not want me skipping breakfast as she said this meal is very important for the metabolism.

I have goiters or cysts in my thyroid and they have grown so I was referred in November for a needle biopsy of them. It was not fun but it did show no cancer. I have to have them followed up on.
