OK...last night at 7pm hubby got a headache and it came on fast and painfull,,,but he took his imitrex and it was gone in record time,,,gone in 10 mins..he has now been headache free for over 12 hrs,,and we are very hopeful that this cycle is coming to an end
Apparently the Verapamil has only recently become available in Canada,,,my hubbys sister ( a nurse) gets migraines and told us about it a while back and I did ask one ER doctor about it and he out right told me that it was just for migraine sufferers...will not work on clusters,,,you should have seen my hubbys face when the ER doctor told him on Monday what the neurologist to him to prescribe to my hubby,,,he was like isn't that a med you mentioned to the ER doc the other day,,I said yep,,that the one,,,so we are just a little miffed that we didn't get our hands on this med sooner,,,

I take Verapamil, Topamax, Amitriptyline and was also taking Lithium until it started interferring with my new lupus meds. Tell him to try to stay away from Topamax if he can -- it really messes with your memory!!! I have managed to cut all of mine in half. I can't break my cycle so I still have at least one minor headache every day. I did manage to go 13 days once without a headache but that is the longest break in 5 years. Right now, however, my lupus is my greatest enemy. Can't get it under control.

So far hubby is just on the verapamil..and they have been helping,,he has still gotten at least one headache a day but the severity of the headache is way less,,,and the imitrex kills it is less then 10mins
Thanks,,I will keep that in mind what you say about the tomamax,,(as of now I have never heard of that one)

Well we didn't find out much more then we already knew today when we went to see the neurologist..but at least the next time David gets into another cycle of these headaches he knows to start on this medication right away.(verapamil).we already knew not to let any headache get away from us and out of control ,,cause for each headache that gets away one us will make whole cycle go on more,,,so the neurologist is writing a letter to our doctor to advice her to make sure she prescribes next time David gets a headache,,,the Verapamill right away along with Imitrex nasal and demerol for at home to make sure we are prepared to stop each and every headache at home immediately..
So yeh ,,were home and takin it easy now,,,David hasn't had a headache since Sunday..and doc said to stay on verapamil til he has been 2wks free of headaches,,,

What's that old advertisement "don't leave home without it?" The secret with these is to be like a boy scout and always be prepared! LOL
