I agree with Amanda it should be fine. A scarecrow is used to protect our food from birds that want to eat the crop so it could be seen as a good guy that helps by protecting the harvest. And if people aren't sure they like the scarecrow idea, maybe it helps to somehow connect it to the Wizard of Oz scarecrow and his courageous journey from fear to freedom. Unless, of course they don't like the film. Then I'm out of ideas

If the kids are going to make the cookies, though, they can just make any face they like. Maybe a self portrait? Keep us posted on what happens.
