Fun Survey - When you get your hair do you...

Well, I just got back from the salon and while I was there I was looking around the place and noticed that everybody has a lot of different habits at the salon when we are in that environment. It almost seems like a totally different world. So, I decided to come up with a list of question to view what goes on and how we act.

So, let's see how you act.

Do you call ahead and scheduled an appointment or do you just walk in and see if you can get in the same day?”

Well, when I want a haircut, I want it right then. But I go to Supercuts, which is a walk in salon, so really no problem there.

When you walk into the salon, is your hair styled in its usually way or is thrown back in ponytail?

I throw it into a ponytail the day of the cut, because there is no reason to style it if someone else is going to do it for you and better.

Do you put your hands under the cape or leave them outside of the cape?

After they put the cape on me, I keep them under, because I really hate when hair gets all over my arms and clothes. Anyways, they wouldn’t put a cape on you, if they wanted you to have hair all over you.

Do you put your hands on the armrest or on your lap?

I do both, sometimes I switch from either position.

Do you place both feet on the footrest or cross your legs?

I always have my feet together on the footrest, because I heard if you cross your legs, it misses up your stylist and you can end up with a crooked haircut.

Are still when they cutting your hair or act fidgety, tapping your feet or hands, playing with something under the cape, switching your body position around, talking with your hands?

I sit very still, my legs together, arms on the armrest and back against the chair. I found it relaxing to not be moving around, it makes me enjoy the experience even more.

Have you ever left the salon with wet hair?

I try not to, but there are sometimes when I am running late for something or just didn't want to pay the extra money, when I can do it myself.

Do like having to look at yourself in the mirror the whole time with wet, unkempt hair?

I’m fine with it, but it gets little annoying, when you see your hair all wet and sectioned in several different ways and you can’t do anything to fix it right then.

[b]Have you ever taken the whole family for haircuts at the same time or is it all about ‘me’ time?

Almost every time that I go. I get my haircut at a family salon, so it makes it really easy on all of us and we always have fun doing it together.

How long do you wait before you were taken to the chair?

I go to a Supercuts that everybody seems to love, so they are really busy almost everyday. Most time, I go on Saturday afternoon for cuts, but most times I end up waiting for forty-five minutes to an hour.

What does your stylist use scissors or a razor?

They use scissors, snip' snip, hair falls to the floor and I'm left with a nice clean line.

Have you ever had the clippers used on your hair?

When my hair was really, really short, they used them a lot on the side and nape of my neck to clean it up and around my ears. Very ticklish.

Do you get scared or nervous when you see a lot of hair on the cape and the floor?

I actually like to see quiet a bit of hair coming off that means that change is happening and I won't get stuck in a rut, I always come out with a different haircut. To tell you the truth, my lap usually has a small pile of hair growing by the end of the cut.

What color/pattern cape does your stylist use and how big is it?

Well, since it’s a chain salon, they all have the same style cape. It's a big black cape, with the words Supercuts printed in bright white on the chest of it. The cape drapes far over the sides of the chair and covers all the way down to my ankles, most times laying on top of my shoes.

Do you like the feeling of the cutting cape?

I love the cool, silky feeling of them over my neck and arms and over my clothes. Also, like when it moves it makes the ‘whooshing’ sound!

Do close you eyes when they are cutting/or coloring your hair?

No, because I like to know that's going on at all times.

Do you like it when they pump up the chair?

I love when they rise and lower the chair, I don't know why, but I like it.

Does your stylist turn you away from the mirror the whole time of the haircut?

Never, because I've even asked to turn me back to the mirror so I can see.

Have you ever talked to the person sitting next to you?

I haven't, because either I'm having a chat with my stylist or they are having one with there's, but sometimes I try to listen on what they are talking about.

What do you wear when you go to get your haircut? Most of the time it is what I wear everyday, a nice t-shirt, jeans shorts, white socks and some tennis shoes.

Does your stylist cut your hair wet or dry?

Wet, because I always have it shampooed when I get it cut.

When getting your hair highlighted, do you feel silly
with all the foils on your head?

I feel really silly, because it just feels odd with metal on top of my head.

Do you enjoy sitting under the drying when processing the highlights?

It feels nice with the warm, soothing air, but it gets a little boring.

Do you take in pictures of the haircut that you want?

I use to, until I figured out from all the bad haircuts that they can't follow a picture correctly, unless it is a 360 one.

Has your stylist ever done something that you didn’t want them to do

The only time something like that happened to me was when I getting my hair color and I wanted a sort of coffee brown and she died it to a sandy brown and when I asked her if it was suppose to look like that, she told me that it was much better than what I wanted.

Have you fallen asleep in the chair when you were getting your hair done?

No, but I've been very tempted to before.

Does your stylist blow dry or use a Duster to wipe off the hair that has fallen on your neck?

She uses a duster and blow dries it off.

Have you ever had to go to the bathroom during a haircut?

This happened to me once and it was a nightmare. At first, I did my best to hold it until she was done, but it got so bad that I had to tell her to stop and that I was deeply sorry that I had to go to the bathroom. So, to make matters worst, she had the chair pumped to the highest setting, so she had to let it down. Then, she had to take the cape off me, before I could run to the back of the salon with half my hair cut and soaking wet. Really embarrassing.

Have you ever got up and walked out of a haircut?

I haven't done this either, because for some reason even when I know that the haircut is bad, I let them finish it. I am such a wuss.

Have you cried in front of your hair stylist?

I don't get sad when they screw up my hair, I get mad.

When you tip do you hand it to your stylist or to the receptionist?

I always hand it to the stylist, because I don't trust the receptionist to give it to the person taht cut my hair.

Ok, I know I won't remember all the questions but here are some answers (fun questions by the way)
I make an appointment at my salon but always get in within a day of calling. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes when I get there even if I am early. I keep my hands under the cape and sit still so the stylist can cut and not make a mistake. She uses scissors (I have long hair and get it trimmed in the back with the sides layered a little so it is a pretty basic cut) I chat with my stylist (no one else is really that close to chat with) I have never cried at the salon but a couple times in my life I have had the world's worst haircuts (luckily not at my current salon) I always tip my stylist, never go to sleep in the chair, never have to sit under a dryer as my style now just requires a quick blow dry. I don't color or highlight my hair so no processing time. When I arrive at the salon, my hand is usually just loose as she is going to have to cut it so why bother putting it up. I do like the feel of the cape and of someone else washing my hair but never notice the chair going up or down. And sometimes I go to the salon alone and sometimes I have to take one of my dks or my daycare kids with me. I like going alone the best.

Do you call ahead and scheduled an appointment or do you just walk in and see if you can get in the same day?”

I've been with the same hairdresser for almost 10 years. She is very busy so I have to make my appointments *at least* two in advance.

When you walk into the salon, is your hair styled in its usually way or is thrown back in ponytail?

I throw it up. She told me once not to style it (i.e. use products) on my hair because color doesn't take as well.

Do you put your hands under the cape or leave them outside of the cape?

Outside. Sometimes, I read or browse a magazine. Other times, I stitch.

Do you put your hands on the armrest or on your lap?

Both

Do you place both feet on the footrest or cross your legs?

Both

Are still when they cutting your hair or act fidgety, tapping your feet or hands, playing with something under the cape, switching your body position around, talking with your hands?

Still. LOL, what hairdresser wants a client with ants in their pants?

Have you ever left the salon with wet hair?

No. Part of what I pay for is getting my hair "done".

Do like having to look at yourself in the mirror the whole time with wet, unkempt hair?

It doesn't bother me

Have you ever taken the whole family for haircuts at the same time or is it all about ‘me’ time?

No

How long do you wait before you were taken to the chair?

I always have an appointment, so I get right to the chair within 5 minutes.

What does your stylist use scissors or a razor?

My stylist has a wide range of tools. She uses what is appropriate for the job.

Have you ever had the clippers used on your hair?

No

Do you get scared or nervous when you see a lot of hair on the cape and the floor?

No. I have a LOT of hair.

What color/pattern cape does your stylist use and how big is it?

It's black. If I am sitting, it goes to the top of my shoes.

Do you like the feeling of the cutting cape?

My goodness. LOL What? It's a cape!

Do close you eyes when they are cutting/or coloring your hair?

No. I like to see what's going on. When I first started going to her, I asked all sorts of questions in regards to what she was doing, what products she was putting on my hair, and why.

Do you like it when they pump up the chair?

Again? What?? LOL I'm not 3. I neither like or dislike it. It's a chair. That's what it's supposed to do.

Does your stylist turn you away from the mirror the whole time of the haircut?

No. It helps with eye contact, plus clients can see what's going on.

Have you ever talked to the person sitting next to you?

Sometimes. Not often. I talk more with the other stylists, since I'm a regular.

What do you wear when you go to get your haircut?

Depending on the season... Tshirt/jeans, tshirt/shorts.. shoes.. and socks if necessary.

Does your stylist cut your hair wet or dry?

Wet

When getting your hair highlighted, do you feel silly with all the foils on your head?

No. That's part of the process.

Do you enjoy sitting under the drying when processing the highlights?

I neither like or dislike it. Again, just part of the process.

Do you take in pictures of the haircut that you want?

No. It never turns out like the picture anyway. You have to figure the models in the pics have someone spend a lot of time making them look that way, and unless your hair is the same type... you're not going to look like that.

Has your stylist ever done something that you didn’t want them to do

No. She's done my hair long enough that she knows how my hair reacts to processes and products. Occassionally, she'll ask me to let her try out a new product on me to see how it reacts to my hair type.

Have you fallen asleep in the chair when you were getting your hair done?

No. My hairdresser is quite entertaining.

Does your stylist blow dry or use a Duster to wipe off the hair that has fallen on your neck?

I have long hair. No need to blow or dust anything off my neck.

Have you ever had to go to the bathroom during a haircut?

Not during. No. I will tell her if I have to go and she's just says... "Have at it, honey!" and let's me go.

Have you ever got up and walked out of a haircut?

Nope.

Have you cried in front of your hair stylist?

Nope.

When you tip do you hand it to your stylist or to the receptionist?

LOL, you're supposed to tip? The money I pay for services goes directly to my stylist. She's not a cheap-end chain store stylist.

Do you call ahead and scheduled an appointment or do you just walk in and see if you can get in the same day? Both, though I usually do a drop-in.

When you walk into the salon, is your hair styled in its usually way or is thrown back in ponytail? Usual way.

Do you put your hands under the cape or leave them outside of the cape? Always under.

Do you put your hands on the armrest or on your lap? Both.

Do you place both feet on the footrest or cross your legs? On Footrest.

Are still when they cutting your hair or act fidgety, tapping your feet or hands, playing with something under the cape, switching your body position around, talking with your hands? Still, for the most part.

Have you ever left the salon with wet hair? Wet, no... damp, yes.

Do like having to look at yourself in the mirror the whole time with wet, unkempt hair? I do.

Have you ever taken the whole family for haircuts at the same time or is it all about ‘me’ time? Having my hair done is about having my hair done... no "me time" about it.

How long do you wait before you were taken to the chair? Varies, visit to visit...

What does your stylist use scissors or a razor? Scissors.

Have you ever had the clippers used on your hair? No.

Do you get scared or nervous when you see a lot of hair on the cape and the floor? No.

What color/pattern cape does your stylist use and how big is it? Light semi-opaque blue.

Do you like the feeling of the cutting cape? I can take it or leave it.

Do close you eyes when they are cutting/or coloring your hair? Occasionally.

Do you like it when they pump up the chair? I'm neutral on the issue.

Does your stylist turn you away from the mirror the whole time of the haircut? For the most part.

Have you ever talked to the person sitting next to you? Absolutely.

What do you wear when you go to get your haircut? Regular everyday wear. Pants, shorts, t-tops, whatever.

Does your stylist cut your hair wet or dry? Wet (freshly washed).

When getting your hair highlighted, do you feel silly with all the foils on your head? Never had my hair highlighted before, but no, I wouldn't feel silly.

Do you enjoy sitting under the drying when processing the highlights? I love sitting under the dome dryer! When smoking was still allowed in the salon, I used to read while smoking a cigarette (while I sat under).

Do you take in pictures of the haircut that you want? I have in the past.

Has your stylist ever done something that you didn’t want them to do Yes and no.

Have you fallen asleep in the chair when you were getting your hair done? Yes... I am a mom of six, so.

Does your stylist blow dry or use a Duster to wipe off the hair that has fallen on your neck? Blow dryer.

Have you ever had to go to the bathroom during a haircut? No.
Have you ever got up and walked out of a haircut? No.
Have you cried in front of your hair stylist? No.

When you tip do you hand it to your stylist or to the receptionist? Stylist usually rings it in.

I normally just walk in to see if they can do it that day, if the line is to long I just wait unless it for a special occassion, then I may call to see if they can take me or make an appointment.

I normally wear the way I mostly do, but I don't really care how it looks unless I'm going elsewhere before I get my hair done.

I don't think about where my hands goes under or on top of the t cape.
Most of the time my legs are cross for that is how I sit. My legs are to short to sit on the floor and most of the time I'm not comfortable for my legs to sit on the foot bar.

I do sit still with my eyes shut as I'm very comfortable and relax when someone fools with my hair, but never have fallen asleep.

I normally get them to blow dry my hair as well as to fix it to make sure how they do it.. I normally get a new style of haircut except for the last few times I've got it cut as I really do like this style.

Well I take myself but at times have had a friend who goes with me to get her hair done as well.

Have had scissors and a razor used on my hair, as well as clippers. Just depend on the style and who is doing it.

Oh it used to make me nervous when I saw alot of hair on the cape and floor? With this new hairstyle and I know my hair needs to be cut, it doesn't as I know alot has to come off.

they use a black cape, don't ever remember a pattern cape or any color ones used on me.

Pumping up the chair is a need so it doesn't bother me at all.

Again it depends on the stylist on if they turn me away from the mirror or not. Again my eyes are shut most of the time so either way if fine with me.

Yes I have talked to the one sitting next to me sometimes, and I also talk to my stylist if I am in the mood to chit chat.

I get them to wash my hair before the hair cut.

Only got my hair hi lited twice once they used foils and another time they used a cap.. I sort of felt silly but it didn't 'bother me.. Sitting under the dryer brings back memories of my childhood days when that is what they did when they fixed your hair.. and how long it would take me to get my hair dry..

I have go online to find pictures of a hairstyle I might like, except for these last few times since I know what I want. If I dont' take a picture with me I look in thier magazine to give them an idea of what I like.

Never got up and walk out during a hair style, why would one? Your hair is undone. Never cried either. I always go before to the restroom before going to the saloon where I wouldn't have to go while I was there.

I will add my tip when I pay out.

Yep, me, too! With my elbow bent at a 90 degree angle, with elbow resting on chair rest, holding cigarette in the air.
