Total Budget for Augut $650.00
Previous Balance of budget $292.39

Spent $187.11

Balance of budget $105.28

Considering there are still 2 more weeks left in the month I don't think I am doing too well. AND I go to Aldi to do the bulk of my shopping, then try to fill in the cracks with WalMart. It's bothering me how I have to run to the local grocery store still fairly regularly.

I've been keeping track and so far out of the money I have spent $437.62 has been on food, and $117.10 on toiletries, pets, cleaning supplies and "other".

I think after this month is over I am going to seriously revisit menu planning.

I know for me at least meal planning keeps me running to the store for i.e. lima beans to go with dinner.

By planning out 8 meals I can pick up what we don't have on hand to finish out the meals and I always have a couple of quick meals on hand for emergancies.

Using leftovers as is or reinventing into a new meal saves me time and money as well. So those 8 meals actually get us 10 meals plus some lunches.

I have a nice tip that I use not to spend money at the grocery store during the week. I send one of my teenager in to get me miilk and bread while I sit in the car. This way the kids only get milk and nothing else. No impulse buying. But I don't usually need anything during the week. I use menu planning and stocking up at grocery shopping time. So this helps me not have to shop for quick items.

Spent $124.22 at Krogers, stocked up on breakfast food for the kids for two months if not more. Went ahead and bought dog food as it was on sale and I had a coupon. I'm over my budget for August but since $50 of it is for Sept so will adjust that months budget.

Budget $700 July/August
Spent $657.34
Coupons $191.30
Sales $277.19
Balance $43.34 for August

This weeks shopping

Goal is $600.00

Spent this trip $141.82(66 items)
Saved on Coupons $9.45
Store Savings $21.03

Left to spend $50.92

The store I shop at has a Pick 5 for $19.95. It is a mix or match meat sale. I bought skinless/boneless chicken breast, pork chops and spare ribs.

They have like 10 different kinds of meat to choose from. I might go back later this week and get another 5. I spent 19.95 and got $17.54 for free. Really can't beat that.

Balance of budget -$129.18

Well I definitely went over! Of course my $650 was only a guess, so I'm not too disappointed in myself. I did make a menu plan this week, so we will see if that helps with the running to the store in between grocery shops. I know i will need milk again before the month is over.

Total for groceries so far $642.97
Pets $59.86
Toiletries, cleaning and other $86.35

Amanda, don't beat yourself up over it...don't you have a bunch of teens and almost-teens in your house? I'm sure they eat like bears--mine do
