We do that too, in fact I am getting to the end of my beef. We bought a whole one at the beginning of November, but we did give a little bit away to my in laws. Now we are down to roasts and stew meat. This year a neighbor is splitting it with us.

I talked to the farmer and the packing house is backed up (it's not a big slaughterhouse, they do appointment only and only have room to slaughter one at a time), so we may not be able to get another till around Christmas. I guess with the county fair (they auction all the beef from the 4Hers) and deer season, they have set aside slots on the calendar for that so hopefully some of those won't get filled. The farmer told me he has started reserving 2-3 spots per month "just in case" because of the back up. I hope it happens earlier, I can't bear the thought of eating grocery store meat again LOL

Total $15.07
gift card -$10.00

total from budget $5.07

$650.00 budget

balance of budget $644.93

Spent $5.04 at the grocery today. Just keeping count, since I am going to count "up" this month and see where I top out.

Spent $27.31 today. Needed to get a couple of ingredients for crock pot roast, also bought ingredients to make Wendy's Pink Lemonade Cake. I bought a generic olive oil as it was much less expensive, I just hope it's good :-P

previous balance of budget $644.93
less $27.31

balance of budget $617.62

When I told my husband about this thread and that I had set my budget at $650 I thought I was nuts. We'll see where we end up. I don't think he really realizes how much we spend on groceries, pet food, cleaning stuff and toiletries!

I'm going to combine July & August together since a lot of what I've bought in the last 10 days of July is for August. So will do $700 total for July/Aug up a bit since we are eating more at home.

Went to the Pizza Supply Store bought 5 lbs pepperoni for $17.25 and Krogers spent $127.73 (took DH and he added at least $25 to the bill LOL) plus had bought $9 of spices at 50% off, saved $47.02

Budget $700 July/August
Spent $529.82
Coupons $114.96
Sales $198.35
Balance $170.18 for August

I am going grocery shopping tomorrow but we needed buns for sausage tonight, so I ran to the store in town here. Of course hubby wanted ice cream for tonight, AND of course his dad (who is visiting) doesn't like the same kind, so I had to buy two tubs of that. Grabbed some chicken too. Total was $19.24.

previous balance of budget $617.62

less $19.24

balance of budget $598.38

Barbsky--thanks for the idea. Last year it came to $1.38 a lb when we got all the meet. Not a bad price for the amount of beef I got. I still have ground beef and a few roast left.

Goal is $600.00
Spent today $135.94(got 48 items)
coupons $3.50

Left to spend $364.06
Have a wonderful day.

OK went grocery shopping, didn't need any meat though. I spent $55.37 at Aldi and 50.47 at WalMart.

previous balance of budget $598.38

less $105.84

balance of budget $492.54

I am keeping track of how much I am spending per category too so I can see how much I spend on food each month.
