Has anyone else read the $100 a Week Grocery Challenge article?

It looks like it would be tough--until you discover the rules:
cleaning supplies, paper products, pet needs, health & beauty products are all NOT included in your $100 budget.
However, you're not supposed to use coupons or warehouse stores. (I depend on both of those to make my food budget!)

I think that using coupons and warehouse stores, and not including the nonfood items mentioned above, I could make this happen. So for August I am going to keep a tally of my "food" purchases only and see how this goes.

What do all of you think about this article?

This is an interesting article Barbszy. We don't really have that many coupons given out in the UK so I have never been able to rely on them.

I will give it a go this August to follow the ethos behind this article and see what is the best that I can do wise.

I use coupons to help make the $300 monthly budget for my family of 4 even though I include dog food, paper and cleaning supplies. With the rising prices though I think I'll have to up it to $350. Actually I've been thinking about tracking my spending for a quarter since a lot of stock up that I do cover a 2-4 month time frame.

I went to the Entemanns & Nickols bread stores and Walgreens on Monday spent $21.33.

I'm going to combine July & August together since a lot of what I've bought in the last 10 days that put me over my July budget is for August. So will do $650 for July/Aug

Budget $700 July/August
Spent $384.84
Coupons $98.08
Sales $165.14
Balance $315.16 for August

Well I hope I am not posting this too early since the 1st of the month isn't until tomorrow.

I am going to try a budget of $650 for August.

That's for a family of 6 (two teens, one preteen, and a 9 yo)

It includes everything:
- paper goods
- toiletries
- pet food and cat litter
- cleaning supplies
- food of course LOL

I am not much for using coupons, but if I do use any I will keep track. I do shop at Aldi for as much as I can, then fill in the rest at WalMart or the local grocery store.

Wish me luck. I have NO idea what I actually spend and that's pretty scary.

Amanda, I am the same as you in that I don't know what I am currently spending per month on food as I have been so disorganised.

I am going to aim for a budget of 250 for the month. This is for 2 adults and covers everything:

food
toiletries
cleaning materials

My August goal will be $600.00 again this month. I have 5 adults.

We will be getting our half of steer this month. I will not count that in my budget. Sense that is a yearly thing and alot of money at 1 time.

I count paper, health, food, cat and dog food and all cleaning supplies.

Charlotte, if you buy the 1/2 steer yearly, you can divide the cost by 12 and plug that into your monthly expenses.
