Grocery Challenge January 2008

Would you like to continue to Grocery Challenge for 2008?

To participate, just state how many are in your family, how much you plan to spend for the month, and what your budget includes (is it just food, or does it include things like cleaning supplies/paper products/pet needs/greeting cards/eating out).

Here's to great savings in 2008!

Mine is for a family of 4. I include food, items to clean up with and wash clothes with, medicine and such. I am just going to list what I spend and see if I can cut down this year. I know in 07 I was easily spending between 5 and 6 hundred a month. This was with trying to be careful. I plan to continue to buy generic or if I have a coupon making it cheaper the name brand. Some items we just don't like the generic but most are fine. I am going to try to do better not to let food go to waste and try not to buy near as many snacks. I don't look for the prices to go anywhere but up but I just will try to do better. I will list everytime I buy and then maybe set a certain amount next month. Best of luck to all of you on getting your grocery bill down.

Came in under in December with $280 spent.

My budget is $300 for my family of 4, 2 dogs and inlaws that eat with use several times a month. I include all paper, cleaning, dog food, health & beauty items in the total.

I know January will be lower as I'm cleaning out the deep freezer and will restock it in Feburary so will carry over the balance.

Roberta you are an amazing shopper. I don't know how you do it.

I was over in December, so I am getting serious this month. I have a family of 4 on a daily basis(3 adults and 1 ten year old) and 2 dds and a sil who crash here fairly often.I am going to cut my shopping to every 2 weeks figuring I can't spend if I am not in the store. I do belong to a food coop called Share and get an order from them 1 time a month. I also want to really cut waste down. I only buy meat if it is on special or marked down. I am trying for $500.00 this month

I am going to keep careful track of what I spend this month and then enter the challenge in February.

I just went back to work two days ago, and now that I will have less time to work around the house during the day, it will be a bigger challenge for me to manage meals and food.

We have me, DH, DS(10), DS(6), 6 cats, and a Rottweiler. I will include paper products, clothes detergent, etc. in my total.

Blew the budget for Dec. But DH did a lot of the shopping as I got the flu. Just begining to feel like doing much of anything, and thought I'd "confess my grocery shopping sins". More later.

I shop for 2. I spent at least $300.00 per month, Not taxables, that's another $50.00. I will shop in a couple of days and see if I can lower it....I buy a lot of stuff in bulk, because I make a lot of stuff free hand and that saves me in the long run.....
