Thank you everyone for your kind words. I just watch the sales and buy when what I use is on sale and combine a coupon if it is a national brand product.

When something is getting low start watching the sales so you have a chance to buy on sale instead of at full price.

I am lucky that in my area most of the grocery stores double coupons of $.50 up to a dollar so that little extra goes a long way.

I try to keep meat purchases to sales of $2.50 or less a pound with the occational splurge for steak on sale $4.99 lb but even that is cheaper than eating steak at a resturant.

2 adults, 3 kids (11-7), and one dumb dog. Besides groceries, I include any HBA & cleaning products in my total. Trying for $350.

$112.71 Commissary
$ 17.16 Edeka (11,69E)
$129.87 Total
$220.13 Left

Sounds like I'm not going to make it, but a lot of what I got was to re-stock. I've been letting things run out because of the 1+ month with no paycheck and now I've got to get everything back to "normal".

I could never get on this thread for some reason yesterday so I'm here to update now. Yesterday I went to save-a-lot, walmart and food city. My total now is 268.50 so far. A lot of the walmart bill wasn't groceries. I bought my son items to take back to college and my dh's razor blades(Mach 3) was over 22.00. It was cheaper per blade to buy the 12 pack because the 8 pack was over 8 dollars. Anyway, thats my total so far. I hope I can stay out of the stores for the rest of the month except for milk, bread and eggs etc. but we shall see.

Jean, I had trouble getting on earlier today. I need to go grocery shopping tonight. After paying the bills today and no more paychecks until next week, I have to stay below $100.00 this week. I usually spend between $125 and $160. I am going to sit down and make a meal plan based on what is in the pantry. I'm going to have to be very creative. Tonight I'm using hot dog buns from the freezer to make garlic bread. I have a feeling things are going to get a lot more "interesting" this week!

I spent just under $30 last night buying some things we needed- bread, milk, toilet paper, paper towels, cat food, a few other things. The only meats I bought were a package of sandwich turkey and a package of hot dogs. I did have to buy four two-liter bottles of soda, which I normally don't buy that many at once- usually just two. One of my sons is doing an experiment for the school science fair- he has placed one hot dog each in a glass of water, diet Coke, and Coke, and is observing and documenting the effects of the sodas/water on the hot dogs. He is going to do this for three total days, taking pictures, then put together his presentation on a display board.

Anyway, I just did a quick trip because I got home late and was tired. We've got meat and pantry items for most of this week anyway, so I probably won't do a big trip until the weekend.

Catwoman ~ I'd love to see those pictures. My kids are looking for things to do for next year's science fair (it's their first time). I'm trying to stay out of their decision making, but showing them what one could be like might make their "creative juices" start flowing.
