I spent $160 at WM the other night - did stock up quite a bit. Bought a lot of staples so I can prepare a lot more at home rather than buying.

Monthly goal: $600.00 for food, cleaning products, health & beauty, & dog food.

So far: $190.00
Leaves: $410.00

I'm a little nervous since it's only the 7th. I better get creative!

Kathy

Wow, you gals are impressive. I just found this thread today, so I'm a little late in joining for the month of June. I just moved here (PA) last month, and am still getting accustomed to new brands and stores and higher food prices than where I lived before. I've been trying a lot of the generic brand items at the local Weis store, and so far, they've all been good, so I'm delighted as that will probably help. Since I was living alone for quite a while, it's been months since I bought groceries for the two of us (DH and me) and even longer since I included DS in the plan -- I dont' even really know what a "usual" month is.

DS is home from college for the summer, so that will add a bit to the food budget, but he's very easy-going about food and always asks what leftovers there are that he can have for lunch, so he's quite mindful of using up what we have.

I started this month with $510.47 in the budget (the $10.47 was "leftover" from last month so I carried it over). As of today I still have $416.99 so I am on track to do pretty well--I've only spent about $95 so far.

So far I am pretty proud of myself. I never got to making my menus for the next few weeks so I decided to stay out of the store. Told dh to use canned milk for his coffee tomorrow and by then I'll know what to buy.

Thumbs up

Barb - way to go on spending very little money on food so far this month!

lizzie-boo - Do you have any Giant supermarkets near you? I lived in Lancaster, PA for several years. I found that Giant was much cheaper than Weis.

RobertaD - I am always impressed at how well you do saving at the supermarket!

cau - I need to do just what you do - make a menu plan. I also plan on doing an inventory of my freezer, fridge and pantry before I go grocery shopping again this week!

Good luck to all of you on reaching your goals!

Kathy

Hi Kathy, there is a Giant in the next town (State College) and we go there every couple of weeks. It's a much larger store, so they have lots of items they don't have at the Weis store here in my town . . . I don't know if that's a good thing for me or not . . . I need to plan better with my list.

DS and DH are planning a fishing trip next week and I really am afraid I'm not going to meet my goal. You all are doing great.
