Thank you. Those are great.

I think my niece will really be surprised by all this.

I made a Tiki Party two summers ago.. and a couple of things came out realy nice, that weren't already mentioned.

Everyone was requested to arrive in Hawaiian shirts /tropical attire .. It set a very festive mood...

We turned the swing set into a Tiki bar, by removing the swings and trimming the wooden set with grass skirting and little lights. We placed a banquet table underneath the swing set frame, and put the drink paraphanalia on the trimmed-out bar. We bought island themed beach towels, and hung them along the fenc behind the bar for a great back-drop.

Adding raffia skirts to all the serving tables lent a nice touch.. We were able to have fire-works in the evening.. and putting cintronella oil in the torches kept the buggies at bay....

For desert I go a "sponge-bob" luau sheet cake. lol.. it was my b'day, so I got to pick

The best part of the evening was the Hula Hoop contest... I have to see if I can get the photos scanned in.. We did a limbo contest too.. On the CD I got was the limbo song, so it was very easy to just re-play the track 'till everyone had their turn.

I also intersperced a lot of muic from the Beach Boys.. (It was a Tiki-luau after all.. not a Hawaiian cultural evening) LOLOL!!

(Try the Waikiki Meatball recipe I made.. A very delicious island dish that you can make ahead and reheat.. not too much work. http://beef.allrecipes.com/az/WikikiMtblls.asp
Val

I hope you all hae great fun.. it sounds like the plans are comming along swimmingly.

I wanted to do a luau party theme for Greg's grad party. He doesn't want a party per say, all the fuss and everything... I guess it's nice to save the money, but I really wanted to do decorations. We are having a pig though. I got a lot of good ideas from this thread. It's not until August -- so maybe I twist his arm a little and do some decorations.!!!

My dollar tree has the luau stuff in stock too~ I'm ordering the plates and stuff in bulk for August. It ends up being even cheaper than Oriental Trading Co., but that's where I'm getting all the decorations and "goodies" . Laura will be turning 16, and she wants a Tiki party! I'm also renting one of those frozen slushie machines.. I'll make virgin coladas and daqueris for the kids and hand out those little bottles of rum to the adults to mix in. LOLOL
