Sick Tree

Hi Brenda

I have a tree on the side of my house that has some sort of bugs or disease. Below is a picture, any idea what this is and why, and how to treat it, if at all?

BTW this is the tree that I asked you to identify this past spring with the pink flowers.

Amanda,What kind of tree is it?I know here we are getting lots of bugs on the trees but it is alomost like they are eating the leaves.Maybe the tree itself will be ok.You could check with a nursey to ask them they should be able to help you out.

I had a landscaper here a while back and he told me what it was, but of course I can't remember the name :-P The leaves don't seem to be getting eaten, that's why I wondered if it had some sort of disease

I'm not good with trees. LOL I'm still learning, but this university extension page has a ton of descriptions on disease that may help: http://www.optimara.com/doctoroptima...006/10001.html

Amanda does your county have an extension office? If so the agent or a master gardener can take a look at the problem & give you a better idea on what it is. It looks like leaf rust or a type of anthracnose but I am not sure which it could be. Take them a sample.

River Maple?

Anyhow, absolutely diseased tree. I recommend contacting a respectable and well-experienced Arborist to examine, or take a sample to your local garden nursery where someone can pin-point what exactly is going on.

Diseased leaves are the first sign of trouble.
