We planted the rest of our milk jugs this morning. I think we have about 18 jugs planted. I have dill coming up. One jug is full but we taped over the label! Don't know what it is. Looks like a herb. Need more milk jugs for the seeds that I bought. I really like this idea.

I'm up to 200 some containers and have sprouts in 4 or 5 already. I'm so ready for spring!

Finally today the kids and I planted some bell pepper & cantalope seeds that I had saved and some flower seeds from the heads that I picked in the fall. The flower seeds I know will grow as they reseed themselves will see if I can grow plants from the seeds of grocery store veggies.

I saved some seeds from an acorn squash this summer that I want to try, just have to find them LOL.

My fil got some peppers from seeds he saved from the grocery store. I was surprised. Maybe the seeds were from not a hybrid? Or he just got lucky? I hope you get some Roberta.

The kids enjoy planting the seeds so I hope we get some plants from the pepper & cantalope seeds. I figure they should grow a plant but may not bear fruit so even if I get pepper plants I'll still buy plants to put in the garden just in case!

I received 2 packs of flower seeds free in the mail so I want to start them as well. I have a tray that I'm going to use with them instead of milk jugs.

a lot of hybrid seeds are not sterile, so you will still get a pepper plant. seeds taken from a hybrid plant are not stable though, so you may not get a plant that is exactly like the previous one.

Ready to grow this year? I have over 60 packets of seeds. Once again I am asking the community for milk jugs. I think two litter pop bottles would work too. This will be interesting since we plan on moving in the spring but we are doing it anyway.

I was just thinking about winter gardening Connie and wondering if you were going to do wintersowing again...

I have some trouble downstairs with the lights by the coal burner, the plants dry out so quickly that I should try wintersowing...did you have any trouble with mold growing on the soil?

I forget how you got the seeds onto the soil, do you just drop them in the top and then put some soil on top of that or do you cut the bottles in half?

And you put them on the south side of the house, east, but not north right?

The pepper seeds never sprouted but the cantalope seeds did and we got 4 plants which bore 4 personal size cantalopes. Kids had a blast with it.
