My grandmother's gardens. She had veggie gardens and flower gardens. I remember picking potato bugs off the potato plants and squishing them with a rock. That was the job I was given to help in the garden. I don't think I was even in school yet.

When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

Visiting a park as a young child, where all sorts of paths, bridges, and secret little passageways were present, and being allowed to pick a fresh tomato or cucumber from the garden (our garden) for the family for supper, was the most enriching feeling ever!
My paternal G-parents had both veggie
and flower gardens as well as pear trees. I helped
carry buckets of water to them every other day till
they were established. Helping pick and shell
peas.
My maternal g-dad also had both. And I remember
picking tomatoes washing them off from a hydrant
out in garden and eating them. He had beautiful Dahlias
and other flowers.

My first memories are with Mom and Daddy. We always had a big garden. Cherry and apple trees and a huge strawberry and raspberry patch. As soon as I was big enough I had to help pick berries. I swear I ate as many as I put in basket! But oh, the chiggers.
Ate green apples till I got sick. At about age 10, I had to help weed, and help pick other crops as well. Then learned how to help can with Mom.
We always had the most beautiful flowers. I have many starts from those flower gardens growing in my flower beds. Some of the original plants were way older than me. I have shared with my brothers as well. So we all have plants that originally grew at home.
I absolutely love flowers and gardening. I guess their lessons took!
Wonderful memories!
