Question Freezing a turkey

Does anyone know how long you can freeze a turkey for?? I had purchased an extra last year at Christmas (or maybe even Thanksgiving) thinking that we'd use it during the year. Well that didn't happen , should I just throw it out???

I think mine said on the wrapper that it was good for 6 mos. in the freezer. Don't know if I'd trust it for a year though.

Did you try the Butterball hotline?

Hi

I have a cookbook, that tells me how long to freeze certain things, like Poultry, butter and other things.

If you want to freeze a turkey/chicken or any other poultry, it can stay in the freezer for 8-12 months.

I will put another thread on, to let everyone know how long things can stay in the freezer.

I have actually used items that were over a year old in my freezer and they still tasted good. Freezing slows down the bacteria thet makes food spoil. The recommened time in the freezer is a good guidline but it is for using the product at its maximum peak flavor. I do not mind if the flavor of the meat is not as strong. I still buy it on sale and keep it in the freezer. I will enhance the flavor by adding spices and herbs. If using a liquid in the dish I will add chicken or beef stock to give it that flavor. I hope this helps you.
