Gwen-- your solution sounds terrific & so old world--like something my grandma would have done.
By the way--I should have heard about this trick sometime during the 53 years I've been married! So here's one for the "old" timers club.Thank you soooo much. It will go a long way for many uses in my home. Will also pass it along to my daughter & DIL too.
Happy & healthy to you & yours.
June.

Bay Leaves in Flour

What a great suggestion! Lately I have problems with mealy bugs in my flour, corn meal, sugar, brown sugar, and rice! I keep them all in air-tight containers, but the bugs are still there. I only have the freezer on top of my frig, so no room to keep staples in there. I am definitely going to try the bay leaf suggestion. Thanks!

Isn't this forum terrific? Thanks to all for your ideas & have a "bug free" kitchen!

I put mine in the freezer, but my mom always put a stick of mint gum in her cornmeal or oatmeal or whatever. She never had a problem with bugs either!

I second the BAY LEAVES, I have lost 2 batches of flour after cleaning every thing and then bugs again But now for 15 years I use BAY LEAVES and no bugs
