I am thrilled to find this many people asking questions about canning and preserving. WOW! I have been active in canning since I was a little girl with my mom. I, myself, have canned since the birth of my first child (1973) and found that there were so many preservatives in foods we bought. It really does not come out to be cheaper, but it is healthier and more rewarding. You just cannot experience" the SATISFACTION and PRIDE that you get after finishing a'turn' of canned food that you did all by yourself for YOUR FAMILY AND LOVED ONES" from a supermarket shopping trip. It is hard, somewhat dangerous with the pressure canners, but it is worth every moment when you open just one jar knowing what went into and is coming out of it! I guess in the long run, I save a lot more than just money or time or anthing really tangible. I save my LOVE in each jar! I have honestly never tasted anything bad that was home canned, just different and nutritious. :p
