Yeah! I finally got the letter today telling me what K class dd2 got in. She is in morning K and she got the teacher that I wanted. She has orientation on the 15th & starts on the 16th.

Aren't you lucky that you only go 1/2 day for kindergarten. Our state has made it mandatory, I think as of this year, that all kindergarten children go full day. I totally disagree with it.

Our pre-K goes full day here. They started pre-K 6 years ago. gd#1 couldn't get in because she was too smart. gd#2 got in because she needed work with her social skills and motor skills. gd#2 goes into Kindergarten this year and she's able to stay with her pre-K teachers since they're moving up to Kindergarten.

What age is kindergarten? Here in Victoria it is traditionally 4 year old, but many kids are turning 5 in their kinder year now. It is separate, in most cases to the school. Kids go 10 hrs per week, usually 2 x 3hrs and 1 x 4hrs. When my ds went he went 2 x 5 hrs which was a long day!
They start prep at school and go full days from about the third week.

Here in NC our pre-K'ers have to be 4, Kindergarteners have to be 5. Not everyone gets to attend pre-K though; only gets deemed 'at risk' get to attend. I believe they have to score less than 75points when tested. My oldest gd tested at 80, her sister tested lower, mainly because she wouldn't do as the testers asked most of the time.
Their classes start at 8am and end at 3pm. Of course the pre-K has alot of play time, it's not all sitting and trying to learn-they even have their own playground away from the bigger kids.

Pre-K here is 4/5 yr olds with kindergarten starting at 5/6 yr old. Our kindergarten go 5 days for 2 1/2 hrs with a couple of all day rooms for those children that are at risk.

In a neighboring town, 30 miles, they have year round school and started Monday... well because of the heat 100 plus this week have cancelled everyday but Monday. You would think that they would make sure the classrooms are airconditioned before going year round.

My dh was reading the paper the other night like he does at work and said that this yr the schools most started around the same time.
but the way the paper read they were not going to start super early but I see here there are a few that has. Interesting.

I think in the next few yrs they are going to try to make it mantory that kids will start after Labor Day... time will tell if that will work or not.

I know I started after labor day and I feel many of you may have too.

PK here goes by income level, if you are below the income they are able to go no matter if they are smart or not. It was also only a half of a day
then in K they start a full day in some schools around here and some don't. It seems strange that schools are so close together but in different school districts and they start at diff times as well as if K goes full or not full days.

My gs will be going of for K wow, he sure has grown..
the gds are in 2 and 3rd and not sure how they got there. LOL....
