School shootings

It been so sad to see all the school shooting, then another one,
it seems to be going on more and more.
so here are some questions I have for you parents, teachers, and anyone else that wants to take part n this discussion.

What do you feel a school should do to protect the kids?
What do you feel schools are being targeting?
With all the schools going on, does this make you want to take your child out of school
to homeschool them?

We all need to keep this in our prayers as well as for the kids that goes to school every day..

It is a very sad thing, but I feel no one can totally protect anyone from this type of violence.

The one that just happened in CT... he got his guns from his mother that had legally bought them.

I also know first hand how sometimes people with mental issues are thrown from one place to another and always being told "you are fine". I recently have had to deal with this situation with someone I know. They wanted help and have tried for years till it got to the point they finally totally lost it. Luckily they were still "there" enough and called 911. But even then they were told you'll have to find someone to help you... Really... just let someone that is asking for help go and find someone to help you? After I was asked for some help by them I called several places including the list of doctors names they were given and the earliest they could get in was March 2013! Other places just said we are full, find some place else! I actually drove this person from place to place a few weeks ago looking for a place to get them in. After several hours of this and them about to lose it again because the door kept slamming in their face I finally located a place that took them in and talked to them and had them an appointment that day at a treatment center to see someone. Treatment started! They are now on outpatient help, on medication and doing better than I have ever seen them their entire life! So until mental health issues help react like healthcare does when someone has a heart attack many many of mentally ill people are going to lose it and someone is going to be hurt one way or another. I could go on and on about this and I know everyone has their own thoughts on the whole thing. But I think mental health plays a large role that so many don't want to talk about and unless someone goes over the edge (which is usually too late and many others hurt also) they are just shoved into a corner. I don't know how to go about making this point to anyone that could start to make a difference. You would think doctors that see this finally would take on the cause! Done venting!

When someone asks for help with a mental problem, shouldn't that be considered an emergency? Mental health care is not sent up like physical health care is. But it should be.
Who are the people that could change this? Does this take an act of congress?
Maybe people should start sending letters to the White House since the President says something has to be done.

I consider it an emergency and did with this one, but obviuosly the health care workers at several places didn't. One even said well" if that person had hurt someone or threatened to even themselves then we could lock them up for a bit".....The person I'm talking about was about at their wits end when I was driving them around and saying guess I'll have to threaten someone or harm myself before anyone will listen; it was a scary day. After they have been into treatment now for awhile the doctor they are seeing said a regular therapist would never have considered this a problem because doctors are first scientist and you don't fit any one mold for a condition! But this doctor has been in practice and has experience and has diagonised them and has them on medication and seeing a therapist too.

I just can see so many people that have no one to step in and help them and them turning to a violent act that after the fact everyone wants to step up and say we need to do this or that, but not before something happens. Sad situation and how many more people are going to be hurt before someone steps up and notices?

I for one would let the president know if I could, but I'm nobody and would never get a chance. Only wish someone could give me a clue (and I'm sure there are many others out there that could do the same thing if they knew how) to be able to bring just this type of situation up to someone that could get started on repairing the whole mental health or lack of! Thanks for the venting again!

We thought that it was so sad. I don't like guns. I know it is contraversial, expecially in the US, but I truly believe that guns are dangerous. I know that people shoot them, but without them, they wouldn't be able to.
I would hate to see schools turn into "prisons" with armed guards (like the NRA are suggesting). What scares me the most about that is who can afford the cost? Would there not be the danger of hiring someone just like that shooter?
I know this sounds like a rant, but I remember when schools were open, didn't have lock down drills and there wasn't a fear when someone walked in the door. I find this sad.
I don't know what the answer is, but I am pretty confident that it is not having more guns.
just my opinion.
