Conquering Back-to-School Spending

As the summer flies by, it's time to start thinking about school shopping again! UGH!! I've already begun!

Here's a great article from FC that contains lots of great ideas for saving money and not overspending:

10 Steps to Conquering Back-to-School Spending

Share your tips with us, too!

One of my biggest tips would be to start hitting the sales right now. I've found great deals on clearance racks at stores that I won't normally shop at because I think that they're overpriced.

Also, check out popular stores online for their clearance sales. I've found some great bargains there as well.

For me I have been hitting the sales.Staples had folders, pencils and stanizer on sale for a penny. Then this past week I got my notebooks for 4 for 1.00 at walgreens and I got glue for 22 cents, markers for 17 cents.
For us we only get the main supplies.I usually wait to buy clothes as it is very hot when they are school and wait for more sales to hit.

We are going to stop at Staples today to pick up some things that are on my DS's required list for school.

Thanks for the heads up!!

I get school supplies when they are on sale. Target has the pronged folders on sale 10/$1 this week, and another local discount store has notebooks 10/$1. I usually buy 20 of each so that I can replace them as they wear out and not have to pay full price for them.

As far as clothes go, it is still hot when school starts - August 20th this year. DD2 and I will be checking out the clearance racks this weekend at the mall during their "Lemon Days" sale. We'll pick up a few outfits but will wait until the weather cools down a bit before getting anymore.

I also pickup the basic school supplies as I see them on sale for dirt cheap and buy the max allowed so I don't have to buy more during the school year and sometimes not even the next year.

I wont buy clothes to start school as it is HOT with no a/c at the schools so they will wear their summer clothes until October. Will look for fall/winter clothes on sale then.

Tammy, "Lemon Days" is what the local mall calls the winter and summer clearance sales that they have. I don't have a clue why they call them "Lemon Days", though!
