Andy (my ds) had no interest in the Lightening Thief series during school but now he is saying that he would like to try it out for the summer.

Tami--Does your Library have audio books for kids Andy's age? Sometimes I have gotten kids interested in a series or author by having listen to an audio book first. Sometimes it helps to listen to a good reader bring the story to life. I recommend unabridged versions so you don't miss out on any of the story details. I personally love good audio books, but not everyone does.

Luke got his grade 3 summer reading list. I think it's "recommended" rather than "required" but he's a reader anyway, so I'll make sure he gets to these.
1. Stink Series
2. The Houdini Box by Brian Selznick
