Exclamation Personal Safety and Empowerment Education

This is yet another program being offered by my city:

This class provides skills to recognize, avoid and escape from dangerous situations or harm. Particapants learn to replace panic and confusion with confidence, self-steem, and personal safety skills. Some topics include staying safe while out and about, aggressive dogs, internet safety, bullying, dangerour predator tricks, unwanted touch, verbal and physical defense skills. The self realization of personal power. All subjects are taught in a fun activity based format.

While I think this could be good I dont want to scare my children into always being on the defense the moment he leaves the house KWIM? I do try and talk to him about how to be aware but is this type of course neccesary in todays society? What are some of your opinions?

Nowadays, I don't think that you can be too careful. As parents, I do not think that we can talk "too much" to our kids about safety and the topics this programs is going to cover. What are the recommended ages for this program?

I wish that our city offered a class like this. I am for it.

I think I'd like to see if our community offers something similar, sounds like a really great thing to do!
