Salt Dough Project

Has anyone else done a salt dough map project for school? Dd is in 4th grade and she has to make a map of Europe from salt dough. We started it tonight and put it in the oven to slowly bake. Hopefully it will be ready to be painted tomorrow so she can get it turned in and be done with it!

Here's a picture of what it looks like so far.

That is so cool We never did things like this in school---I might have learned more in history if we would've. Keep up the good work and give us a pic of the final project if you can!!

I have never worked with salt dough--yet. I am planning on make some ornaments with my kids for Christmas.

Amanda has a lot of salt dough projects on FC too.

Here is the final map. Dd and I were home sick yesterday (the map was finally finished drying) so we were able to get it painted. They are having a special event at school tonight and they wanted to have as many projects in by today so they could be displayed.

It was fun to do, but definitely a little stressful. When we went to start painting it, we realized that there were a few areas that weren't exact, but oh well. Hopefully her teacher isn't expecting it to be perfect!

There were specific areas to be labeled and I was able to convince her that it should be painted natural / normal colors (she would have preferred gold, pink and purple and many some glitter). She did get to add her own touch to Ireland, though. See the white dots - those are the millions of sheep that we saw there!
