Hi, I think I'll jump in here. I am also an avid reader, which has passed on to 13yo DD. She currently LOVES Nancy Drew, has just finished Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants (which we are going to see at movies tomorrow), and enjoys almost anything. She hasn't bothered with Harry Potter. She also enjoys Emily Rodda. Two excellent books by E Rodda are Finders Keepers and Time Keepers. Don't know if they are easy to come by, but worth reading for 9 or 10 year olds.

DS, 9yo, doesn't enjoy reading so much, but we read together every night. Currently a series 2:52 about a laptop with great power!! It's a fun read.

Meg, I just read the Traveling Pants book! My DD at 9 is too young for it but I wanted to see what it was about....it was a good read. I'm requesting the sequel at the library.

My DD is reading MY old copy of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." She wants me to take her to the movie. I told her I would, as soon as she finishes the book.
Just found out DD needs glasses (they're in progress now) so hopefully she will be a more eager reader when she can see the page better!

Hi Meg's DD! I thought the Traveling Pants book was great! When my DD is a teenager I will recommend it to her. I guess you liked it as much as I did, if you're looking for the sequel. After you read it, why not come back here and tell us what you think?

My dd who is 14, is into the Sisterhood of the Traveling pants trilogy

and anxiously awaiting the new Harry Potter. My son (17) reads mostly
magazine articles to do with nature, conservation and reptiles.

Thanks ladies for encouraging DD. She enjoyed Sisterhood book, and really loved the movie. We have ordered a new Nancy Drew book, well it's actually a really old one, the first one ever written. It's been reprinted this year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Nancy Drew. DD will let you know how her reading is going.

Hugs all

It is really great to read some of the different books that the kids are reading. That way I can tell my kids some of the other things to read.

DS just got the newest Harry Potter book and is reading away. I had to tell him to stop and go to sleep. If he had his way I am sure he would read the whole book til he was finished. That is the way I get if I read a book. They never put me to sleep but seem to wake me up.

Also good are Beware Princess Elizabeth and Mary Bloody Mary by Carolyn Meyer and Hannah's Winter and Night Singing by Kieren Meehan.
The Nancy Drew I'm reading that Mum told you about, the first one ever written, is The Secret of the Old Clock. Also to mark 75 years HerInteractive who makes the Nancy Drew PC games made a game based on that book which has just come out in the states! Does anyone else have a DD that likes Nancy Drew? I'd love to chat to her!
