Soda Alternatives

I have decided to try to give up soda. I didn't think I could do it, but I haven't had a soda in 6 days!

I have found a few alternatives. I'm keeping it non-carbonated.
Water
Iced coffee
Iced tea
Unsweetened iced tea with a little fruit juice in it

What are your favorite alternatives to soda?

This one is actually easy for me, I have never been a big pop/soda fan. Even as a kid I didn't drink much of it, just didn't really like it. My husband and my older kids, they are a different story, they love it.

I love iced tea. i've made the Shortcut Lemon Tea listed here and it's good, but lately I have been using Lipton's Cold Tea tea bags. They are really easy, no boiling or anything, just plop them in cold water in a pitcher, remove, add sugar and you are done I've had an article on FC for many years called Liven Up Your Iced Tea and have never tried any of the recipes. They sound really good though! The Fruit Tea Punch and Honey Apple Tea sound really good to me

I also like Crystal Light. They make these handy little packets that you empty into a bottled water and they are really good. I try to keep those in the fridge too.

I'm addicted to flavored water, though I only seem to like the brand made by Aquafina called Flavor Splash. Those can get rather expensive though, especially since my kids like them too. So the Crystal Light is a better alternative

Barb, if you try any of those tea recipes let me know how you like them!

I am not a big pop drinker...once in awhile I will have a gingerale..usually when we are out .

My fave is water and I like the aquafine water with vitamins that is flavoured but I only drink that once in awhile too. I have started to drink V8 veggie fruit blend drinks..1 cup has 2 servings of fruits and veggies.

Amanda my hubby likes those crystal light packages...he takes them to work...I can't drink them because they have aspartame in them or one of the sugar subs and they give me headaches.

Hugs dEbbie

Amanda, I have made the shortcut lemon tea and it's very good

I too need to stay away from artificial sweeteners, so I avoid Crystal Light or anything like that.

I found some "cran" blend juices that don't have any high-fructose corn syrup, and if you put 1 part juice and 4 parts plain tea, over ice, it's really yummy and you don't even need sugar!

Deb, I too have tried those V8 Fusion fruit/veg drinks and they are really good! I've kept those in the fridge for the kids and they like them too.

I like the idea of adding the cranberry juice to the tea, Barb, I will have to try that!

Do you add lemon to your tea Barb? I can drink it without lemon, but I prefer it with lemon.

I only put lemon in sweet tea. If I'm going to add juice to the tea I leave it plain.

Tea is really good with any "cran" blend added. Pomegranate juice is also delicious with tea.

I drink decaf. iced tea sweetened with Splenda made from our iced tea maker. I love that machine!

Aldi's had flavored bottled water that is sweetened with Splenda. My kids and I drink it.

My DH is hooked on diet pop. I want to break him from that habit so badly!!

My SS just sent me some orange green tea bags that were really good! I didn't use any type of sweetener with them, either. It was great hot tea.

I have gotten away from drinking water again but I'm trying to fix that, too. There are times when I actually crave ice water over anything else.

I've never tasted pomegranite juice or tea but I've heard that it's really good.

My DS used to use the singles packets of drink mixes for school.

Me too! I have well water here which tastes cruddy. We fill water jugs but I tend to horde those for the coffee maker LOL

I'm thirsty right now for water. Thanks for the push, I'll go get some

Tami, I got the idea for the juice in the tea when I got some of those POM teas last year (practically free with really good coupons). I won't spend $3 on one glass of tea. But I figured out that I could make my own with my juice blend of choice, and my favorite tea.

Amanda, I keep a Brita pitcher around just so I have "good water" for the coffeepot.

For general drinking water, I have found that if I fill a pitcher with tap water and refrigerate it overnight, it tastes just fine. But right out of the tap--nasty.
