Eating Organic

As some of you know who have followed me on "What Did You Do Frugal Today" and "Anna's Vegetable Garden" we are striving towards Organic Living and Living Self Reliant. Here is one of those times when I'm so glad we do.

FDA chief says more eggs may be recalled - Health - Food safety - msnbc.com

We buy our eggs from a small local farm lady who free ranges her chickens. Ask around to your friends/family/co workers.. I'll bet someone knows someone who raises eggs for sale.

There are a couple of places in the country around town that advertise eggs for sale here.

I did buy organic apples the other week as they were the same price for the same weight. One reason I plant so many tomatoes & bell peppers is I try to get enough to freeze until the next year doesn't happen but I get close.

Being from Ohio you'll get a good chuckle out of this one. I was looking on Craigslist today I always look at what is free and the Arts/Crafts section. In the Arts/Crafts someone was advertising Organic Buckeyes... the person obviously either has no clue what organic means or are trying to "cash in" on the Organic movement, LOL!

And Krogers this week is advertising "Buckeye Chickens" we had talked about that on another thread, that there is actually a breed of chicken called a Buckeye Chicken.

The History of A Buckeye Chicken.

I get my eggs from a friend of my dh's that has his own chickens. I buy my pork and beef from friends that raise them on there own farms. I get to call the butcher and order what and how I want everything. The beef is grass feed.

I have a daughter who is a marine biology major and she has me schooled on what fish to buy and what to stay away from.

I buy most of my fruits and vegetables doing season from local farmers that advertise organic.

Winter stuff for us right now, carrots, beetroot and silverbeet. Tomatoes, for us they are a year round crop

Charlotte, I've seen the way some countries 'grow' their fish, it's downright scary!
