Question Diabetic recipes?

Hi! We just found out that my dd (6) may be diabetic (type 2). The doctor recommends we follow a diabetic diet for her as much as possible. Ok, so.....

Anyone know of any good diabetic recipes that a picky 6 year old will like? I really want some good "sweets" ideas too as I don't want her to think that being diabetic means giving everything up either. Thanks!

Diabetic Receipes

Hi Smartsgirl03,

What sort of food does she like?

Here are some receipes I have in a book for diabetics, as my father is 1 too.

Healthy Strawberry Milkshake

Serves 4

Ingredients

12oz (350g) fresh strawberries
1 1/2 tablespoons caster sugar
1 pint (570ml) chilled skimmed/semi-skimmed milk
1/2 pint (285ml) natural low-fat yoghurt

Chill 4 glasses. Reserve 4 strawberries for decoration and put the rest into a food processor or blender and sprinkle with the sugar. If possible, leave to stand for 20 minutes before pureeing the mixture. Pass the puree through a nylon sieve to remove seeds.
Return the mixture to the food processor and add the milk and yoghurt,. Blend on a high speed for 1 minute. Pour into chilled glasses, decorate with the remaining strawberries and serve immediately.

I hope she likes that, if she does and you want more receipes contact me, and I will send them to you.

I sent for it under 2 weeks ago and received it 2 days ago ..pretty fast for a freebie

Ill post some "sweets" recipes for you from the book.

I send away for free diabetic recipes because Im not diabetic but I am insulin resistant plus Im trying to eat low carb. Most of the diabetic recipes can be made lowcarb with some easy tweaking.

What kinds of foods does your daughter really like? Ill see if theres anything in the book thats geared toward those foods too.

MOT, What is caster sugar? The milkshake recipe sounds so good!
