Your Porch

What have you done to make your porch a relaxing place to spend some time? Do you have rockers, a swing, or lounge chairs? Do you have electricity available to put on some music or do you enjoy the peacefulness of the outdoors?
We have a couple of benches and four rockers on our porch, the swing is under the trees away from the porch. DH and I find ourselves almost every night after feeding the chickens sitting there just enjoying the outdoors, even when it is raining as it is under roof. How do your enjoy yours?

We have a back patio that we (I should say mostly my dh) sits on. It's not very big, though. Our grill is out there also. It's just too buggy out there for me with the hot weather in NC. We lived in a house once that had a full screened in front porch. It was great! We spent a lot of time out there and my son used it as a play area, too.

We are hardly using our deck because the wood is splintering so much. We can't afford to replace it yet - any ideas as to how we can cover it or something to enjoy?

What about getting one of those outdoor carpet pieces at one of the home improvement stores? They aren;t too expensive versus other things. Anyone else have any ideas?

Good idea! Maybe I could find one on sale for summer. I wonder if those dry out quick when it rains?

I have never had one although I have looked at them, but I would imagine because of the material most are made of and they are indoor-outdoor that it wouldn't be long to dry. Anyone ever have one or know someone who does or has?

We had the green indoor/outdoor carpet on our cement block porch when we bought our house... it lasted quite awhile till our then new dog started digging at it, it eventually tore apart we decided not to replace it, just painted the cement gray.

As to how we enjoy our porch... we use it alot. I have a double seater metal swing, the ones that are popular now days. We also have a 2 seater Amish wooden glider that my dh and our friend Neal sit on. In addition we have 2 antique metal chairs. We have a small table very tiny that we sit coffee and drinks on. I have a old bedroom table with a drawer (from a hotel) that the bottom part I store all our things like rock salt for winter, water jug, etc. and it has a drawer where I keep misc. outdoor things in. I have 9 rose bushes planted around the front and one side of the porch, the other we haven't figured yet what to do with... in the winter I keep my trash cans there for easy access.

We have visitors on our porch and yard all spring/summer/fall... neighbors who stop bye to visit and sit awhile. I love my porch. It has a metal awning that goes all the way across it, so when it rains it's nice to sit out there and listen to the rain hit the roof.

2 porch swings and I use them ea day. Our porch is covered and is north facing w shade tree on west end. We put swings on ea end so east or west we choose according to breeze movin or shade needed. I sit there w kids (21,19 & 10) alot n TALK. They open up more on wooden porch swing than anywhere else . We watch storms too, high and mostly dry. There are old metal red chairs too that rock if swing is full.

Porch

I long for a really big covered porch! It is on my list of requirements for our next and last house. Right now I just have a front " stoop" i call it. It is just the front steps really, but I have an old painted white chair with a huge fern on it, a flag and our mailbox is on the house beside the door. My youngest and I made a spring wreath, so I think it looks nice, but there is no where to sit! We have a huge back deck with a swing, Gas grill and a 6 seat outdoor table with umbrella and the sunniest corner has my 3 year old's container garden of pots of herbs and veggies. It is in need of painting. But we do entertain quite a lot. But I would love a covered porch!
