Hi. Christopher Lowell recently did a room much like you described. I believe he had custom book shelves made as the room divider and then filled two walls with built ins for storage of the tv, etc. The third wall was filled with the sofa on a window. The front door opened into His room from the hallway and it was a fairly small space. On the hallway side of the bookshelves he decorated as you would any hall wall. I'm sure it is in the show's archives.

I have a 1949 home and I'm guessing what I'm about to describe came with the house? In my bedroom closets I have this trellis attached to the top of the door frame and it has these vinyll accordian type thing that slides open and shut, it is a ugly color chocolate brown but it works well and holds up well, it doesn't show anything when its shut but when opened it complete closes the closet, it also has some kind of magnet in the door frame to keep it shut. Have no idea where you could find them but it would cover the space.

Guest Room / Living Room

I have the perfect idea for you! 2 weeks ago Christopher Lowell had a special on this... he did an amazing re-do on a living room and turned it into a guest room complete with a folding wall. When he first explained it, I thought it was ridiculous, but it turned out beautifully! I guess you should browse his site for more details on where he got this folding wall. (It even had bookcases on the folding wall!)

Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to Christopher's web site next. I've gotten so many good tips from his book "7 Layers of Decorating" but this problem had me stumped! I will definately check him out although during Thanksgiving weekend we had an architect friend stop by our house and mentioned to him what we wanted to do and he came up with a real neat idea. It consists of having an opening built with drywall (my DH sez he can do it !?!) and hiding some pocket doors at each side of the opening. He's even offered to draw some sketches for us. But I'd still love to see what Christopher has done! Again, Thanks!!!

My husband also recently drywalled something in our home (his first time ever). He found helpful hints at the website...
At the top of the home page you can click on Interactive LIbrary and it shows exactly how to do the drywall (as well as many other helpful honey-do's).

Again, Thanks!
HGTV is my favorite channel (along with FoxNews) and I'll be checking that out soon. I did go to Christopher's web site and the episode I think you referred to is "Double Duty Rooms". I saw the moving bookcases-wow! That's a heck of an idea but I don't know if we could incorporate something like that into our room. Aside from the fact that they are REALLY expensive! Anyway, I've got more info to share with my DH when he gets home tonight! Thanks
