Barbszy, if the sofa is well made and in good condition, you might want to check in with a local prison. (I know that sounds funny) Prisons often teach the inmates to make furniture and how to reupholster furniture among other skills. My sil had her sofa reupholstered at a prison and it cost her about $650 which was cheaper than replacing her sleep sofa and it came out gorgeous. Fitted slip covers might be another cheaper option either custom made (could cost $500 and up depending on style and material and time) to buying them from a catalog. Sure-Fit slipcovers has a website where you can get any style slipcover out of just about any material and color (including denim). A good new sofa will cost $1000 and up. I bought a sleep sofa for $600 and it is nice but not nearly as comfy as a more well made sofa but with dc I am not investing in good furniture until i change jobs!

Interesting idea, Sammi. I wonder if they have that kind of program here.

I have tried slipcovers before, but they just don't stay put on the sofa. Then they rip. My DH is very heavy and every time he sat down the slipcovers would come untucked and start to tear.

They even survived me leaving a watermelon on one to rot under the table for 3 weeks...

That sounds like something I would do! Very funny. I like the idea of denim. I love it anyway & like a great pair of jeans, don't they just get "cooler" when the denim starts to wear?
