Bare Bones Decorating in basement?

hi - does anyone have any ideas on how to decorate a basement that currently has nothing? I can use about 1/2 of it and am interested in faux finish etc. on the concrete floor and concrete walls. (The floor is painted basement grey at this point) and there are no dividing walls at this point.. My husband is in the process of making me a hanging bench and I have a couch and TV down there......any suggestions or examples of what you have done?
Thanks for your help - this is a great place to visit, to get opinions and to be encouraged. Be blessed!

basement

ok, these are the ideas that are floating about in my thoughts ... can anyone advise if this would work? Walls: taking joint compound and putting through a stencil to build up wall/ then painting the whole thing white and doing layers of taupe and then brushing a bit of white to catch the upbuilded parts. Floor - painting a cobblestone effect. I have a oil stove already down there - thinking of adding an old suitcase coffee table (I love antique/junk finds etc.) Thoughts??? additional ideas?

You can get a free video loan from your local Benjamin Moore paint store, or a free faux-paint class at Lowe's or Home Depot.

I got the video and we did the most gorgeous paint job on our living room/dining room from that. The friend who told me about it did her concrete floor in faux tiles, came out just lovely. The videos were simple... self-explanatory... great demo... and did I mention free? And the employees at those places know how to do it and what stuff to buy.

Lightbulb Decorating basement

Hi, I have a basement also and we put blue lapis color indoor outdoor carpet down over the cement floors. It was a very inexpensive floor treatment and can take a lot of traffic and does not show dirt easily.
I also have several mother in law tongues plants and they thrive in the low light, they are a good choice. Happy decorating
