Lightbulb Glass Block Night Light

Has anyone seen the glass blocks that are being made into night lights? They are so beautiful! I am wondering what they drill the hole in the glass with? What type of drill/bit? Does anyone know? Has anyone seen them, yet?

It is a diamond tip drill bit. Lowes or Home Depot sales them. I believe you need to buy a 1/2" one. If you go to the store (Lowes or Home Depot) just go to the drill bit section and ask the sales associate for a drill bit that cuts glass they will be able to help you. That is what I did when I bought mine, cuz I wasn't quite sure what to buy when I went. Hope this helps. Good luck.

glass blocks

I went to Lowe's and got the 1/2 inch glass drill bit. The guy gave me a hard time and said that you couldn't drill those blocks because there was a gas in them that would cause them to explode. Do you know what they were talking about? How did you get a 1/2 inch hole big enough to get the night light in? Drill 2 holes, side by side? Do you know where I can find pictures of some finished blocks?

I don't know what they were talking about gas in them. I got my blocks at my local masonary shop. I bought the 3" blocks and my husband drilled holes in everyone of them with no problem, he just had to go slowly so they wouldn't crack. Maybe that guy was talking about the ones that are already put together. When I went to my local Lowes and asked for the blocks, they didn't sale the single blocks, that is why I had to go to my local masonary shop.

I just put a string of 15 or 20 miniture lights in mine........you can buy those at Joann Fabrics or other craft stores. That way you only have to drill one hole........ I suppose if you want to put in the standard night light, you would have to get a bigger drill bit. I never saw them with that size of a light just the miniature lights.

Here is a link that I found.

Good Luck.............

Our Lowes has hole bits, which are different from a reg bit, My hubby cut the holes in the blocks with out a problem...he puts them in water. I like the little sparkle lites much better by the way.
