OK, at long last, I finally got the picture of the jeans rug, and Janet, the rugs are woven on a loom but could be braided as well if you dont have a loom. You take the strips of jeans cut to about 1 inch wide and as long as you can get them to be , sew a whole lot of them together, so you have a really really long length of 1 inch strip , fold it over, and sew on the edge.. now you have a 1/2 inch strip. If you wanted to make a braided rug, you could just start sewing them together either by hand or machine , I guess going around and around in circles until you have the size of rug you wanted.. for the loom you just use it as you would yarn.

I really like the rug. I make jean quilts out of my kids outgrown jeans. I hand sew them all only because I like the way some parts of it will come undone and fray after washing a few times. instead of tieing them off i use old buttons in the middle of the squares. I have quite a collection of old butttons that were my grandmothers. I have made many of these and have a whole pile of outgrown jeans sitting here to start a new one for myself this time

Kimmer, isn't that great! I never thought about the frayed looked. You are so fortunate to have old buttons too...some of the very unual ones, you should mount on a frame..for a lasting memory of your Grandmother.

I bet your fingers get sore from the sewing of jeans..

Another option is to make a no sew jean quilt...with blocks that are cut the same size and then you make the little cuts to tie them together..just like they do with the fleece ones.

I am trying to save up material from White jeans...I want to sew them together and then embroider a flower or vine on a few of the squares..

If it doesn't nourish your soul,
Don't Keep it.

Janet it takes me about 3 months to sew one together. Due to I can only work on it so much. I have taken my favorite buttons and the unusual ones and hot glued them on to a picture frame with a picture of my grandmother and myself when I was little. I did this shortly after she passed away 13 years ago. The picture still sits on my nightstand.

I have never even thought of tieing a jean quilt together. I will have to try that with this next one. Thank you
