Hi! I just typed in orris root on google.com and got a load of info - maybe some of it will be helpful to you. And hope your leg is doing well!

I made this craft a couple of years ago for my mother. I found the orris root powder at a good health food store, one that has fresh vegetables and a juice bar. It was by bulk so I only had to buy a tablespoon. The way that I found it was by asking a local natural food store and they gave me the name of a larger one that they refer people to and I called and they had it.
I was a little dissappointed with the craft because it was smaller than I had expected. I needed to use bigger apples or something.

Dried apple wreath (orris root)

Hey, thanks for the help. I used 2 bags of apples and then strung them onto wire in a heart shape. I also added material bows every so often and finished off with a raffia bow at the top. I didn't think it would take so many apples but it took 2 - 3 lb bags. Actually it would be more economical to wait a couple more months to do it when apples are cheaper. I love mine.
