I use them in drawers too, and wanted to add that the hard cardboard velveeta boxes work awesome too! I like to cover the shoe boxes with matching scrapbook paper, and it looks like I have a set...at a fraction of the cost!

Now that would be a frugal gift to make a set of three storage boxes wrapped in colors to go with the receivers room. Velveeta box, kids shoe box, adult shoe/boot box, with a boot box could put the other two inside.

I never knew what they were either until my son had to do one in 4th grade. They were assigned animals and had to do a diorama of one. It was a pretty cool project.

Here is my son's: (this is 2 yrs ago already!)

Photo-organizing! I used to buy (and also, in my scrapbooking store, used to stock) boxes very similar to shoeboxes to keep photos organized in - the craft store still sell them but you can really just use the ones you have - I've been doing this for years!

I am very happy to say that my photos are organized, in DATE order since 1972! YAY! Took me forever to do it but now when I want to scrapbook a particular event I can go right to the picture (or pictures) , scan it/them, and make a memory!

YAY!

shoeboxes

I keep my sewing patterns in. Perfect size to fit upright and stay neat & organized.

When we allow the shoe-boxes into the house (more often we let the shoe store keep them)... They get used for everything from decorative floral baskets to "junk" boxes (instead of junk drawer). Sometimes they are used as the base of silk floral arrangements, scrapbook supply holders (currently one is an organized holder of glue bottles - glitter, clear, and standard white washable glue), "gift" boxes, scene boxes (made one for a setting with wolves as a gift for a friend), I have one with my "storage" boxes to be used for when we move, one is in with my Halloween decorations box - it's holding all the "small" items -and one colorful wig.
