Looking for some kids' crafting tips!

Hi Everyone!

If you are used to making crafts with kids, I'd love for you to share some of your crafting tips with us here at FC!

You never know, your tip might win you a "Kids Craft Tip" award icon for your FC awards library!

The tips must be tried and true...not copied from a magazine, the Internet...etc.

Thanks for sharing!

Tami

This is a craft tip of my own that I have posted on my website. Get a shower curtain for $1 at the Dollar Store and use it to cover the surface where your child will be crafting: the table, the floor, the back porch. It contains the mess, is easy to clean up, and folds small storage.

I have used what I called "black out" paper. This is a two part craft.

Step one: a white or light color paper paint multicolored water paints all over the page. Set aside to completely dry.

Step two: Color the whole page heavily with a black or dark color crayons. This is a great way use up broken crayons. You can also grate up a crayon or use crayon shavings from a crayon sharpener. Spread it over the page and cover with a piece of wax paper and iron.

After it cools, you can use a toothpick and stratch a picture into the crayon and it shows the colors underneath.

It is a bit messy, but it takes a couple of hours to complete.

use shaving creme to wash the table, but allow the small kids to enjoy making designs in the shaving creme, they love it.
It smells good too.

I got to put on my thinking cap but this could be fun.
what does the icon look like?

I don't know if this is a tip everybody knows...it's an old one, I did this in school...Now that's old! lol...My grandkids like doing this especially on poster paper...Take an old rag and rub crayon on it . Put your finger around the rag where the crayon is and rub it on your paper. It will come out looking like a pastel......
I put a small piece of plastic wrap over the opening of paint jars and screw the lid, when you try to open it, the jar won't stick and will be easy to open.....
When kids are little I've found that it's less messy for them to use a small paint brush for gluing their crafts.......

The icon is the little crayons like you have in your awards. You have 2 icons like this already.

Roller paint into an old plastic serving tray, have the child draw a picture with their finger in the the paint on the tray then carefully pop a piece of paper over the tray and press gently.
When you take the paper off you should have a white finger painting and coloured background.
The tray is easy then to take to the laundry and wash or even hose off in the yard.

My 6 year old gd enjoyed making this to use as a decoration on top of a birthday gift.
Save wish bone from chicken or turkey.
Wash well.
Paint ---any color child picks
Put on a little glitter.
Add tag with ribbon that says, Make A Wish!!
Put on top of gift or give as a gift....
