chuckle Spring Blooms Tray

Spring Blooms Tray

This decorative tray is absolutely lovely. Friends and family will be amazed when you tell them that you made it, they'll want one of their own!

You will need:
Flowers for drying, such as ferns, delphinium, yellow daisies & leaves (or pre-dried flowers & botanicals)
Heavy Book
Acrylic Paints in rosy pink, golden ocher, & creamy ivory
White spray primer
Small natural sponge
Wooden Tray
Disposable foam plate
Decoupage medium

What you do:
Prepare flowers ahead of time. Press flowers in a heavy book overnight. Press ferns and various leaves in the same manner.

Thoroughly clean the tray. Prime the front with white spray primer. Let dry.

To sponge-paint the tray, use a small natural sponge, soak it with water, and squeeze out excess. Place a small amount of rosy pink, golden ocher, and creamy ivory on your foam plate. Using the rosy pink color, begin sponging on the outer edge and sponge inward. Next, sponge the ocher color, blending the colors together. Do not allow the paint to dry between colors. Blend the colors in toward the center adding cream last. The tray will be pinker on the outer edges and lighter toward the center. Let the paint dry.

Decide how to arrange the flowers on the tray. Apply a coat of decoupage medium to the tray, beginning in the center and working outward. Lay flowers down into wet decoupage medium. Arrange fern pieces and leaves directing outward. Arrange leaves in a border around the rim of tray. Let decoupage medium dry.

Apply at least two or three more coats of decoupage medium over tray front, allowing to dry between coats.
