You bet it's hot outside! We've been reaching temps of 108 and up, so we definitely spend a lot of time at the public pool. But we can't be away from home all day, so the boys go outside in the backyard and squirt each other with squirt guns that they fill from the water spigot. They squirt the dog too and she loves it!!
That water bucket relay link sounded really fun, we'll have to try that

My kids love to play in the sprinkler. They also spend a lot of time riding their bikes in between times of getting squirted with the hose.
We have a snowcone maker too that we take outside to avoid making a mess in the house.
We have been spending more and more time indoors until the evening hours though.
We are going to try the waterballon fight tip from the Family FunBook

Picture of cooling off
There's also a fun place here called Mission Hills Water Park. It's not a big theme park type place, just a playground with srpinkler thingys and water that shoots up out of the ground. That's another great way to cool off!
Here's a couple pics

If we can't head off to the beach, its the paddling pool in the garden for us! And lovely cold ice lollies. And of course as little housework as possible, which is hard if you gets lots of sunny days in a row!!

Sitting in the shade on the porch with the ceiling fans running, watching the neighborhood kids play in the sprinkler is my favorite way to beat the heat. Add a glass of iced tea and I am in heaven.

Total Summer Splurging
This is one of those once or twice a summer things. I love to start the ac in the early morning, before it gets to warm. Then we all wake up to a cold house. Cold enough for a pajama day. Keep all blinds closed. Watch movies, have junk food, play games, and wear comfiest clothes we own. Most of the time, the phone and computer stay off, too. This is the day for all the things we miss about winter: food, cuddling in blankets, (pretending) snow days, short days, etc... When I was single, I started this. My roommates and I had a fireplace and when they were both gone overnight, I'd lay on the living room floor and light the fire and pretend it was winter. Helps me get through the never ending summer heat. With a family, it takes budgeting and planning, but it's soooo worth it.

My favorite way to cool off in the hot summer days is to put cool water in the tub & just sit in it & relax. When I start looking like a prune, I get out & have a nice big glass of ice cold iced tea or lemonade. Since my kids are all grown, I don't run the sprinkler very much.. only to give the grass some water.
