Pinkie Winky Making Christmas 2004 Gifts

I have some cool table cloths that I am going to cut apart and make some placements for my mom.

Crochet some towels, doilies, and kitchen scrubbers for her.

Candles & Gift Baskets

My family, friends and co workers will be getting candles that I make custom scented with their favorite fragrances.

If you are just getting started or want to buy them I would suggest some basic wintery scents like Cinnamon or Cranberry, Bayberry, vanilla is always a classic.

Put in a craft gift bag with tissue ( gift bags can be bought at Michaels craft store generally 3 for 1.00) and you have a nice presentation.

Gift Baskets:

I make my own lotions, body powders, etc. the recipes are here in the craft section. Lotion is a lotion concentrate I buy at a craft supply store, you add 1 oz. shea butter, 1 oz. sweet almond oil, 16 oz. distilled water, heat in a double boiler till it reaches 150 degrees on a candy thermometer and pour into bottles. You can find bottles at CVS or Meijers in the trial sizes/ traveling section.

Hope these ideas help.

I wish I were crafty enough to make things from scratch.

I am putting together gift baskets of soy tarts and warmers for some of my co-workers. And a cooking theme basket for my Dad.

Wine Jelly in Wine Glasses

This was another item I saw at my craft show. They had taken pretty wine glasses, made wine jelly (see recipes in the What did you do frugal today section) and tied a pretty ribbon around the stem. They sealed it with paraffin wax although if you can't get that you can also use melted bees wax.

I will be making a lot of the presents this year, right now , I am involved in making skirts and purses out of mens neck ties for the ladies on my list.
When those are finished, I will move on to the men's presents, which I am still thinking about... tossing a few ideas around in my head.
For the children on the list ( neices and nephews) I am making lamps for their bedrooms and adding a small purchased item.

I'm making computer-generated calendars with family pictures. Also some personalized stationary for my MIL, as well as a photo album.

A puzzle from a kit (you use your own picture and iron it to the puzzle pieces) for a niece. Also, I'm putting photos of DH, his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather together on an 8x10, and framing it for him.

I could use a lot more ideas, so I'll be checking back here to see what everyone else is doing.

pattern info

paintingnut, I'd love to have your pattern for the mens necktie purses, if you are willing to share?

This year I am making several gifts: knit scarves, knit dish clothes, fabric covered nightlights, pillowcases for the kids, homemade scented lotions and body wash, tons of ornaments to make with the kids, and the gift that is going to everyone from the kids is a frig magnet that I rubberstamped on mini tiles: kids are coloring them in, placing them in cellophane bags and tying with ribbon.

I made two styles of the purses but they were left over scraps of the skirts that I had made. I didnt use a pattern, but I will try to explain here for you. You may pm me or email me for more specific details if you would like to.
First of all, heres the picture of the first one I made it may make explaining a little easier.
this picture shows the front of the purse. You can see that I just lined the ties up end to end in the same direction and in the order I wanted them sewed. I then put the ties right sides together and sewed the edges. The bottom 16 inches was used in the skirt, that left the rest of the ties to be used in the purse. I then sewed two extra ties together in the same fashion only i put them together wide end to thin end to make them into a rectangle, cut them to length that I needed, and sewed them in place to make the bottom flat part of the purse. All that was left at that point to make the purse body was to sew up the side of the "tube" it created and add handles made of the thin ends of ties and attatch them. Do I have you confused yet or did that help? I will post the back of the purse in another post and try to explain the other style of purse as well.
