chuckle Back To School Crafts

Pencil Toppers
Writing with flair is easy when using pencils topped with one-of-a-kind decorations.

WHAT YOU NEED
Pencils
Embroidery floss
Tape
Beads, charms or bells
Felt
Colored paper
Scissors
Time needed: Under 1 Hour

Step 1:
For a dangly decoration, tape the center of a 12-inch piece of embroidery floss to a pencil just below the eraser. Wind the ends of the floss around the pencil several times, then tie them together.
Step 2:
String beads, charms or bells onto the trailing ends. Tie overhand knots below the last beads to keep them from slipping off.
Step 3:
To make a fringed pencil top, cut out a 6-inch-wide felt circle with a 1/4-inch slit in the center and slip it over the eraser. Then, make a series of 2 1/2-inch cuts inward from the edge of the circle.
Step 4:
For a stand-up fringe, wrap and tape colored paper around the pencil end and snip downward through all the layers.

Friendship Pens
Make them for yourself or swap 'em with your friends! Why not use your school or scout colors or your favorite colors.

Ages 8 and up.

You Will Need:

Ball Point Pen
Multi-Color Yarn
Tacky glue or Low Tack Glue Gun
Beads (Optional)

Instructions:

Using as little glue as possible, place a very thin bead of glue near the tip of the pen and up about 1" on to the barrel. Starting near the tip, wrap yarn tightly around pen without leaving any gaps. Add more glue as you go. You can change yarn colors but it is much easier to use multicolor yarn.

When you reach the end, trim and secure with a little dab of glue. Cut three 12" pieces of yarn. Knot the three pieces together near one end. Braid and end with another knot. Glue on pen end.

Add additional braids if desired. Your can also add pony beads or alphabet beads.

Variation for Scouts
Use the Number Beads found at MakingFriends.com to decorate pens with your troop number.

Page Savers

Unlike ordinary bookmarks, these clip-on place keepers won't fall out of your book.

WHAT YOU NEED
Thin cording
Beads
Pipe cleaners
Paper clips
Time needed: Under 1 Hour

Step 1:
To make a Bead Bangle, tie a piece of thin cording onto one end of a paper clip. Then string on beads or charms, then double-knot the loose cord end to keep them from slipping off.
Step 2:
To make a Fuzzy Braid, begin with three different-colored pipe cleaners. Bend each one in half, then hook all three over one end of a paper clip. Then pair up the like-colored ends, and braid them together. Lastly, pinch and twist the ends to secure them.

Autograph Shoes

Friends' names look really neat -- especially when they're on your feet!

What You'll Need:

Invite your friends to write their
names on your shoes with colorful
marking pens.

Purchased canvas tennis shoes
Permanent marking pens
Crafts glue
Colored jewels
Yarn in bright colors
Scissors

Instructions:
1. Have friends write their names on the tennis shoes using permanent marking pens.

2. Using crafts glue, stick jewels around the names and on other parts of the shoes. Let the glue dry.

3. Cut the yarn the length of shoelaces. Thread the yarn through the shoe holes and tie as shoelaces.
