WalMart no longer accepting "free item" coupons?

I received coupons to try the new Philadelphia Cooking Sauces for free - no purchase required. I tried using it at our local WalMart today and the refused to accept the coupon. The cashier told me that the only "free" items that you can now receive are items where you buy one, get one free.

I asked her when this policy was started and she said that she didn't know but she was told not to accept these types of coupons.

Has anyone else had trouble using these types of "free" coupons at WalMart?

Hmmm, I wonder if they can do that? Might be worth contacting the company of the product it was on and see what they have to say about it.

I avoid Walmart for this reason. I purchased an air mattress. Within an hour, I tried to blow it up and there was a flaw in the mattress so I tried to take it back for a different mattress. They used the policy that air mattresses could not be traded or returned to refuse to allow me to turn it back in. They told me that I had to call the company. If I had gone with a different store, like Target, I would have had no problem.

I don't have a choice not to shop at Walmart because since we live a rural area they have done chased all the other businesses out of business so if I don't shop there I'm out of luck. Not happy about it,but even the closet walmart is a 40 mile round trip, anything further goes into closer to 100 mile trip. Wish someone could open and survive them!

I order online if possible before I will shop at Walmart.

Online shopping just doesn't work here because of delivery. My drive is 1/2 mile uphill, so iced, snowed ,and flooded keeps any of them away. And on good days FED X will not come up it, UPS tries. But there is a locked gate at the top to keep out 4 wheelers and just sight seers. My mailbox is at the bottom of the drive, but neither of them can use it and they won't leave a package on the side of the road. Plus for groceries and prescriptions online just doesn't work. So until someone can figure out a method of surviving walmart people in rural areas just are out of luck. But I still love living in the back woods and not having any neighbors near by! So walmart is just one of the things I have to suffer through for the time being.

It does have some things you have to get used to, but for the most part it works for us. I have adjusted enough that when we go to someone's house in a neighborhood it really bothers me for everything to be so close! lol
