Very Simple Costume Ideas

A Die:

Take a large box and paint it white. Then make a hole at the top and one on each side for your arms. Make the top (head) hole #1 and the sides (arms) number #3 & 5. The bottom (your legs) #2, the front and back #4 and 6. Wear black pants/leggins, black shirt and you can paint your face black also.

I personally went to a party as a die many years ago and won for most creative and original

WICKED WITCH:

Use a black choir robe or old black dress. You can buy black satin and make a caftan.

WOLFMAN:

Slash up old clothes to wear. Get some brown fur and cut it up and glue it on hands and neck.

QUASIMODO:

Cut up burlap to make simple tunic or use old bathrobe. Use old clothes .

GORILLA:

Use an old black fur coat as a base. Cut up black upholstery for accents. Use black gloves for hands.

COUNT DRACULA:

Make a cape out of one square yard of black satin. Use an old black suit for the clothes. Make a white vest from a bed sheet.

ALL SPACE ALIENS:

Use turtle neck sweaters with tight pants. Use old bathrobes. Drape yourself in a tie-dyed bed sheet. Glue sequins and felt designs on old suits with glue.

MUMMY:

Wrap yourself in burlap strips. Shred old oversized clothes. Slop paint on leotards and tights or sew strips on a pair of white coveralls.

DEVIL:

Use red clothes or red tights and leotard or robe. Use red body paint.

AUTOPSY:

Tear up old clothes and splatter red paint on them.

CREATURE FROM THE LAGOON:

Use green leotards or a wet suit or green body paint.

OLD MAN OR WOMAN:

Use old clothes. A man can use a black coat and cane. A woman can use an old long dress.

FRANKENSTEIN:

Use an old green coat and black pants. Slash up the coat with a razor blade and slap red paint on it.

CONE HEAD:

Use pajamas or regular clothes. Make a cape from a material remnant.

ROBOT:

Wrap yourself with tinfoil. Get an old set of coveralls and spray them silver.

SKELETON:

Use an old black coat or choir robe with a hood.

MOLE CREATURE:

Use an old black coat, sling mud or brown and black paint on it.

GARGOYLE:

Use an old fur coat. Buy some plastic chains and sew on the suit.

DEMON:

Use a green body suit or bathrobe. Buy two yards of green felt and glue on strips.

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA:

Wear a black suit with a cape. Be sure to scar up your hands.

As you can see, the ideas are endless. The big thing to remember is to check the local thrift shops that sell used clothes for odds and ends. You don't need to sew; use glue and staples instead. Use your imagination. Get felt, paint, glue and do it!

Costumes

Anyone started thinking about costumes yet? I am tired of buying expensive costumes but cannot sew to save my life. Any ideas?

My son said he thinks he wants to be a ghost. That is fine with me, but I know he isn't going to want anything over his face for very long so I'm going to have to come up with a ghost idea that isn't your typical old sheet with two eyes cut out. Any ideas?

We have started to think about it and already changed our minds about 20 times.

As of this moment my dd wants to be a Cell Phone.

She better make her mind up so I can start making the thing ....

:p

My son says he wants to be the Headless Horseman. That shouldn't be too hard. He can wear all black and we can tie the cape on top of his head so he can see out the front and carry a pumpkin bucket for his head.... Now if only he doesn't change his mind...

I wonder what my DD will want to be... probably something impossibly difficult.

Lightbulb Costumes

I would try black sweatshirts, tights etc. You could decorateaccording to what theme you pick.
What happened to moms clothes for dress up or dads? Guess this dates me.
How about sheets ,wings & a halo. Happy halloween. Sheila

A couple of years ago, my daughter had to be a witch for her 3rd grade performance. I went to the thrift stores and got a black dress, actually a pretty nice velour one, extremely cheap. I cut jagged edges on the bottom and the sleeves. All we had to do was get a hat and a broom. It was a great idea and very inexpensive. I hope you come up with something not too expensive or time consuming. That is the only one I can think of right now. Do you have any used kids clothing stores around? Those are good places for costumes. Good luck, but most of all have fun.

Definitely visit a thrift shop! You'll be surprised what you might find there!

Depending on your sense of humor you can do the following. It has won many awards.
Materials needed:
all black outfit
Plastic knifes or something similar
fake blood
The small individual cereal boxes.
Glue/tape the boxes to the costume, put in the fake knives and apply fake blood. Do a little bit of a ghouly face makeup and Voilia a cereal killer. I laugh everytime I think about this.
another off the wall costume (have to have a sense of humor for this too) but for adults is to dress up like farmer and carry a hoe around and your a P-*-M-P. Hopefully this hasn't offeneded anyone and enjoyed the ideas of a play on words.

Thanks for all the ideas! I'll look around for a thrift shop. (I'm new to the area.)

I love the idea for the cereal killer. Think DD would want to do it?
