Etsy

thought I saw someone on here asking about Etsy or letting us know they were going to start selling stuff n Etsy..
Is anyone familiar with this site-have you bought anything there or sold anything there??
dd#1 is setting up an account for her and I to sell our knitting and crocheting.. still have to make up some stuff to post before we can really get started.. I've looked in their forums-although not through ALL of them, yet. Looking for info on setting up the account-how to set up accounts for us to take credit cards, as well as paypal and Etsy gift cards. dd set up a business account on paypal and now has to apply for a tax id-if we start getting into the tax stuff it's going to get complicated real fast.. It doesn't appear that anyone charges tax-unless it's included in their rounded off prices-dd told me shipping was included in the prices, but I noticed shipping charges on a couple of shops I looked at.
If anyone has had any experience with Etsy let me know how you liked it.. Thanks, Pam

Pam

I have talked to people out in the stores who did well with etsy but she made hand sewed baby clothes.

I signed up for etsy a long time ago but it's confusing, never could quite figure it out and only go there now for ideas. I don't care for their site it's hard to track how well something is selling.

Sadly on crocheted afghans anyways, I've been watching ebay all year to see if afghans are selling (crocheted) and not seeing any bids on those items at all. I figured this time of year with it getting cold people would start buying but after going through 3 or 4 pages I only saw one bid and that was for a pattern. I would suggest doing some research as you are doing on here to see if items like yours are actually selling.

I am surprised at how cheaply people have their afghans priced and some really beautiful work done on them and no bids.

Let us know how it goes with your research and if you have any luck selling through there.

Anna

Hi Anna,
My dd is doing the research on everything and I've been checking out some of the individual shops on Etsy.. looks like some people have some success with their crocheted and knitted items. I guess the thing to do is to over a good variety and have it on hand when it is ordered.. We may try to do some things other than knitting and crocheting-but those are our main things right now..
Not sure how long ago you thought about working with them but they are saying that they've changed some things to make it easier for people to understand and for the sellers to have a larger control over what and how they sell and deliver. They said their policies used to be very wordy-now they've shortened them and supposedly made them more user friendly.
I figure if I can get myself knitting to try and sell items then maybe I'll stay in the mode and make some of the items I'd like to make for charity-kids and others.. also, might think about making more for Christmas than I was thinking about doing..
Thanks for letting me know your experience with them..
