I was telling a friend @ church about this post and asked her what color she had used this year 2 decorate and her reply 2 me was, "Why do people use certain colors to decorate during the holidays and at Christmas when Jesus was not into decor?" I had no reply 2 that question but it has really bothered me since she said that...

I decorate in all colors.
My tree is a collection of ornaments that my kids made, gifts from family and friends, ornaments from exchanges etc.
And I cherish each and every one of them.

I have seen a couple of pretty combinations:

Whites, off whites and gold or silver with small amounts of rich dark blue

Purple and gold

Silver and blue

I think your idea sounds really pretty, though!

Wendy,

One reason, I believe, is that not everyone believes in Jesus and the Bible but they do celebrate the joyous holidays. (Please don't take that to be a snide remark about religion, I promise that's not what I mean! I'm just stating a fact). Over time, it's also a celebration of gift giving, parties and family time...sort of a winter holiday celebration. For those reasons, I believe that people like to decorate.

I'd like to hear other reasons why people decorate.
