It takes me 3 hours to assemble and light the tree. I'm not sure when it's going to get done this year. Usually we do it on the 3rd Sunday of Advent which is THIS Sunday.

(Yes, that's just assemble and light! Mostly light! The ornaments take no time at all because everybody helps. But the lights are MY job. I'm a little obsessed with how I want the lights to be!)

Ours went up Friday. We had decided on a real tree, but changed my mind as I since my mother passed I am still going through her things and have a more crowded house... so bought a little tree and put it up on a table for this year. Next year I will go back to my big tree and all the lights. I bought red lights for this little tree and some small ornaments- it really is very pretty but so small. I will probably donate this tree to a nursing home or a needy family when we finish with it...

chadsmom, I bought a 4 ft pre-lit tree for this year. With all the ornaments from the ornament exchange club I rec'd this yr and the 2 preious yrs, plus some I just have to have on it, I have not one empty branch. DH asked why I didn't just put up the big tree.
Its like this, if he would take the hours to put the lights on it, I would have.

We put ours up on Saturday. It is a small fiber optic tree that rotates around. There is a bulb at the bottom that shines on the optics on the branches and lights them up. Just have to put the balls on and hang the tinsel. Doesn't take much room sitting on the cabinet and is out of the way.
Have a Christmas china set that I use during the xmas season when I get visitors. Really puts them in the spirit.

Sueanne, your nativity set is absolutely gorgeous. I have been looking for a nice one for years but am very picky and haven't found the right one yet. And your tree is beautiful!

Sueanne, your decorations are very pretty. I love the Nativity set. I have a small one that I put in my window, but I'd love to find one of those big ones for out in the yard that lights up. I haven't found what I'm looking for just yet. The ones I've found are more like a plastic coated cardboard with lights around the outside of them.. I want one with plastic figures that has a light bulb inside of them.. sorta like the Santa figures. I'm going to go to the Christmas Shop in St. Pete to see if they have one.

I also love that Nativity set. We have one but I just don't like it that much. I'd love to have a prettier one with a nicer stable.

My uncle used to make beautiful, big stables (you need a piano bench or bigger to set them up) and members of his extended family would make ceramic ornaments. When my grandmother died, her stable and pieces were given to my cousin since her dad and his family had made them. She doesn't want them!!! She wants one that someone had made just for her. If that comes up in discussion this year when we see her at Christmas I am going to tell her to just give them to me. I'd gladly take them and have the perfect place to put them.
