I need a substitute idea for rubber duckies

Who knew that rubber duckies were so expensive? We're talking over $1.00 each. That's a lot of $$ for my budgeted party. (And did you know that there were sooo many different styles of duckies now?)

I'm trying to think of a substitute to stand in for the duckies in the "pond game" for my daughter's birthday party.

Here's what I've come up with so far....

Using wiffle balls and attaching ducks cut out of foam sheets onto the balls

or

Making a paper pond and using paper or foam cut out ducks "swimming" in it.

Cany anyone else think of a substitute?

You could use marshmallows and say, save the duck eggs. Marshmallows do float.

use ping pong balls and spray paint them yellow, this could be duck eggs. LOL

have you checked Dollar Tree or Dollar store to see about thier cost? If not do that.

cut shapes out of sponges as I think sponges will float....
not sure what kind of game you trying to play,
but you could always have another kind of game using ducks, such as ducks on a board, and throw sponges at them... or somethig along this line.

I like the marshmallow idea. You could use those yellow Peeps.

Since the party is going to be outside, I think that I should skip the marshmallows. I can just see it now...marshmallows covered with bugs....the boys would probably love it!

I like the sponges cut into ducks. Now I'm on a mission to find some cheap sponges. We have a birdbath that we are going to fill with water and use it. Thanks, bar_bar!

BTW...bar_bar, have you received any of the 3 PMs that I've sent to you? It seems that members are having a hard time contacting me and now I think that I'm having a hard time contacting other through FC.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies!!

I'm not sure what your budget is but I just checked on Orientaltrading.com and they have the game ducks 20 for 9.99, they also have others like 12 for 5.99. I love this site, I have used it for everything I do, Bridal Shower, Baby Shower, Birthday. Check it out. Also if you go thru certain sites you can get points or money back for your purchases. Mypoints.com, Ebates.com, Shopathome.com, I have a list of many more sites like that too. Good luck on your party. I used to do that plan parties for people and I loved it.

Do you have some leftover plastic easter eggs? You could hot glue the ends together to form a seal for water resistance.

Or use small water balloons with a small amount of water in them and they should float, use a permant marker to mark the numbers on them.
