Has Anyone Thrown a Nascar Themed BD Party?
My son has already decided that he would like to have a Nascar BD party this year (end of Oct). I want to make it gender friendly since all of his classmates will be invited ( although only a handful ever attends any of the kids stuff).
Im looking for ideas that have worked really well for the party.
Also budget friendly ideas.
Thanks!
Tami

Hi Tami,
I might be able to help you with this one.
My nephew is a NASCAR nut. He is especially crazy about Jeff Gordon.
Here is what I did for him one year.
For the invitations I handmade racecars from construction paper and each one had the number 24 on it. On the inside I wrote something like Start your engines and race on over to Alexander's 3rd birthday party. (and put all the info there as well.)
I made Pit Passes in the shape of a movie ticket and wrote ADMIT ONE across the front of those. Using black construction paper I made racecar tires. Out of white paper I made little checkered flags. The tires, flags and pit passes were sprinkled around the table like confetti.
Go to your local party store if you have one and look for mini trophies. If they are large enough you can put ice cream inside the for Trophy sundaes.
Make his cake look like a racetrack.
How soon is his party? I have an idea for you if I can find the directions. Will let you know.
Coll

My nephew is also a Nascar nut! His mom threw him a Jeff Gordon party last year- their cake was car shaped... a regular 13x9 cake with a second layer made from a 8x8 cake which they bevelled the edges off of when it was cooled. Then they just decorated it to look like a race car complete with black frosting wheels on the sides. For decorations going with the black checker flag is always a winner and use black & white balloons. You can usually get black & white checked fabric for around $1 per yard, you could use this for a tablecloth.
Depending on the age of the kids your games could be anything from "race tag" to designing their own race track using linkin' logs or a mini track set. My nephew just turned 6; they let the kids decorate their own "race cars" out of packing boxes (the top & bottom flaps were cut off ahead of time), markers/crayons. They attatched black or red ribbon (like suspenders) to the front & back of each kids "car". Then the kids wore the "car" they made and had a little race in the back yard.
Hope this gives you some good ideas, but I hope above all that your son has a great time!

Sorry that I didn't have the time when school was in full force. But, last year I had a NASCAR themed party for myself. I like these ideas. You can also go to http://www.sportcakes.com/ and click onto NASCAR drivers. The cake kit includes a race car cake, cake mix, decorations, cake pan, and the like of your favorite driver's car. I've also used black icing to make a Goodyear tire cake. I even made one for my boss for his birthday of a race track. I used small diecasts. He's an avid Jeff Gordon fan as well. His party was right after Jeff hit Jimmie Johnson's crew on pit road. So, I had Bobby and Terry (Labonte) coming in 1st and 2nd. I hd Jeff in the pits running over JJs crew. I used the little bobble head dolls for that. For auto racing themed parties you can obtain checkered flag napkins, table cloths, and the like at party stores.
If you want to go cheap, you can hand make the pit pass invitations. If you DS doesn't have any objections to having the party during a race, you could set up the TV and pretend that you are at a live race. Have everyone come in their racing caps and tees. If you know people who are into NASCAR and go to races, I am sure that they have seat cushions, ear protection (that can be plugged in to the TV) and other cool stuff. Serve the type of stuff that is served at the track--hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, turkey legs, pretzels, and the like. You can also hand make a program like they had out at the track. What I did at my NASCAR party was have a cook-out. We brought an icechest with soft drinks. Then, we cooked hamburgers on the grill. I let everyone assemble their own burgers. I served chips and potato sald as sides.
I know this is late, but it's some ideas for the future. One more thing, don't worry about making it gender friendly--this sport isn't just for boys anymore! We females purchase more NASCAR merchandise than the males!

It seems that the book was written either after last season or toward the end of last season because the only new rule it doesn't have is the impound rule--which is new for 2005. I won't say what grammer/spelling errors I found though. LOL
I only wish he could have explained more things in detail though. For example, he did say that cars have to fit templates. He did not say that ALL cars have to fit at least 18 of the 32 templates NASCAR has designed for all car models. However, all and all, it seems like a ver good book. Since you have a young boy who is interested in NASCAR, you should get the magazines. The pictures and stories are usually less than 2 weeks old. Also, if he cannot get enough NASCAR, there is www.jayski.com. I only wish I could have a NASCAR birthday again this year. Unfortunately, school starts the 22nd and my b-day is the 23rd! Bummer

You probably already had the party but here's an idea ...
place one hotdog into a bun
insert 2 tookpicks near the front and 2 near the back. The wheels are sliced black olives which you place onto the toothpicks.
These are to resemble racecars.
