That is a bit reassuring. Thanks. It is nice to "know" a librarian.

I just talked to one of my knowledgeable "soaping friends" who is upset over this law as it affects our soaping industry too. alot of us and I have in the past, made glycerin soaps with toy embeds such as Ducks that float in the soap, soaps scented with childrens fragrances like bubblegum, etc. and this would not be allowed either. Completely silly for scented soaps though I can kind of see that the embeds could possibly be made with lead. We could still sell the scented childrens soaps but couldn't put anything on them that would make it appear to be a childrens product like wrapping etc. without having to pay the high fee's to have it tested, very silly and not well thought out law for sure! I don't do children's products anymore at all but I certainly sympathize with the small cottage industry that does.

Man oh man this is for safety but reselling stuff when you know people are going to need it?And this might put some people out of business and force parents to buy more new toys for their kids too.

First, is there really lead in the books? Maybe the covers? I can't grasp that. Next, in my humble opinion, kids could do without toys, it might encourage them/us to use their/our imaginations & make toys out of rubberbands & boxes , etc... But how can you live, learn, educate with out books? Well, you could to some extent, but OH how they would be missed!

I work for a company that makes boys and mens clothing, also school uniforms for children. We have to have all the buttons, snaps, zippers, etc. tested for lead. We had to have all the clothing in stock tested. All new items coming from China must have a GCC--lead free certificate with the invoices. We have to provide certificates to all stores that we sell to for all styles and colors of clothes.

Very expensive thing.

Oh, my, I always send my stuff to the consignment store to make some extra cash. I have to visit them next week and see what they have been told....I heard it was toys no longer might be accepted because they have to be lead tested and most small businesses do not have the $ to test every single thing that comes their way.
