Car seat Safety

There is an increased risk of injury associated with shield booster seats compared to forward-facing child safety seats, according to the study, "Not All Child Safety Seats Are Created Equal: The Potential Dangers of Shield Booster Seats." The study looked at data on crash victims admitted to pediatric trauma centers between 1991 and 2003. Children restrained in shield booster seats had more severe injuries, and were more likely to have injuries to the head, chest, and abdominal/pelvic area. These children, based on age and weight, could have been restrained in forward-facing child safety seats as currently recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

EDITOR'S NOTE: More information on this topic can be found in the Medem document, "Car Safety Seats - Guidelines for Booster Seats".http://www.medem.com/search/article_..._typ=NAV_SERCH
